Agriculturally Speaking Demonstration On Untied Tobacco To Be Conducted By FRANK W. August 24: Roanoke River Basin Ass'n, Tour of Kerr Lake. August 30: Regional Plann ing Board, Roanoke Rapids. PREPARATION OF UNTIED TOBACCO FOR MARKET j S. N. Hawks Tobacco Spec ialist from State College, will be here August 17 to show how to prepare tobacco for ssai loose leaf sales. This demon stration will show how to han dle tobacco from the stick to the basket. If you plan or are thinking about selling tobacco during the first five days you are especially urged to attend this demonstration. All tobac co producers, including land lords, operators, tenants and others are encouraged to be present. The demonstration will be held in Thompeon'i Warehouse at 2:00 p. m., rain or shine. Among the fields of excel lent tobacco in Warren County this year, one such field is lo cated on the Walter Martin farm. R. D. Carroll, Rt. 1, Warren ton, who cultivates the tobacco is shown in the pic ture with his son, Robert, in specting an outstanding field of the 316. Mr. Carroll re ports he used 1500 lbs. 3-9-9 in the drill and top-dressed with 200 lbs. 8-0-24. He applied the fertilizer in bands on foot apart which prevented fertili er damage. He had a light rain between ridging the rows and tractor transplanting which had a tendency to firm the beds. This was a top field of tobacco and 1 am now looking forward to a report on the yield. FEEDER CALF SALE The special beef animal Warren ton Rural Fire News By BILL CON NELL The Inez Auxliary saw the only action this week when, according to Chief Harry Wil liams, Jr., they answered two fire calls, one to a house and one to a tobacco barn. The house fire occurred on the Tom Harris farm when the home of Lee Perry was de stroyed, along with all the con tents. Considerable headway was gained before firemen ar rived on the scene.
