News and Events of Interest To Norlina Readers MRS. IMOGENE ARNOLD, Editor Mrs. A. P. Gooch is con fined to her room due to ill ness. Mrs. George Robinson was an overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. George Boyd Robinson in Raleigh last Wednesday. Mrs. George Robinson spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Edwards in Higtf Point. Mrs. V. T. Paschall is visit ing Mrs. Jim Williams in South Hill, Va.. this week. Miss Linda Kay Stallings of East Carolina College spent last weekend with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Stal lings. Mr. Hugh Pridgen of Ral eigh visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Pridgen, last Saturday. Mr. John Reid of Tangan yika Providence, Africa, and Collegedale, Tenn., his mother and father and two sisters from Africa and a sister from Washington, D. C., were visi tors of Johnny Newbern, Mrs. T. J. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Knight for a short while last week. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hawks and children spent several days last week at White Lake. Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Knight and children are spending this week at Wrightsville Beach. Mrs. L. C. Dalton is spend ing this week in Raleigh with Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Hawks, Jr. Mrs. S. J. Satterwhite, Mrs. J. R. Paschall and Mrs. L. 0. Reavis left last Friday on a chartered bus from Louis burg for Gettysburg, Pa. and Lancaster, Pa., and Pough keepsie, N. Y. They plan to visit Hyde Park, Roosevelt's old home, Boston, Mass., Ban gor, Maine, and Nova Scotia. They will return by New York City for a few days be fore returning home Sunday night. Harry Sabrawski and three children are visiting Mr. Sa brawski's parents in Norwalk, Conn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Diebel and Frank, Jr., of Richmond, Va., were weekend guests of Mrs. Boyd White. Mr. A. B. Pjebel accompanied them to tbe- White home for an ex tended visit. Mr. and Mrs. L. H Whitted and Johnny of Weldon were Sunday guests. Annie Armstrong Circle Holds Meet The Annie Armstrong WM3 Circle members and their husbands met on Monday evening at 7 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Daeke, Jr., for their annual picnic supper and regular monthly meeting. After a bountiful supper, where many good homecook ed foods were enjoyed, the members gathered for their June circle meeting. Mrs. A. S Wyckoff, chairman, called the meeting to order and Mrs. Billy Fallaw led the opening prayer. Mrs. James Overby, pro gram chairman, showed an interesting film on Israel. Mrs. Bobby Harris will en tertain the circle at their July meeting. Young Adults Hold Meeting At Church The June meeting of the Young Adult Fellowship was held at the Zion Methodist Church Educational Building on Wednesday evening with Mrs. James White, president, presiding and leading the worship period. After routine business, Hal Paschall presented Leigh Traylor, guest speaker. He made an Interesting talk on "What Is Expected of Me and Us." Following the meeting the group enjoyed homemade ice cream and cake. Clinton Minister Moves To County The Rev. and Mrs. K. A. McLean and daughter, Patsy, of the Clinton Methodist Cir cuit moved into the Jerusa lwa-Zlon Parsonage last Thursday. Mr. McLean filled bla new pulpits on Sunday. Funeral Rites Held For Arthur Floyd Funeral services for Arthur Travis Floyd, 13, who was drowned while swimming last Thursday afternoon in the Katzenstein Pond near Nor lina. were held at the Norlina Baptist Church Saturday at 3 p. m. by the Rev. Billv Fallaw, pastor. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Macon. He was a member of the Norlina Baptist Church, the Koyal Ambassadors, and was to have entered the ninth grade at Norlina High School this fall. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Holt Floyd; five brothers and sis ters, Catherine, Alan, Eliz abeth, Wilbert and Gilbert Floyd, all of the home; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. H. W. Thompson of Macon. Undergoes Surgery Mrs. J. H. Short under-1 went surgery in Maria Par ham Hospital, Henderson, last week. Mrs. Roy Hicks ' and Mrs. Claudie Stallings ? visited her several times. Wilson Family Holds i Reunion In Durham The family of James E. Wilson held a reunion on Sunday, June 30, at the Bird | Sanctuary in Durham. FORCES, GERMANY ?Army Sgt. John J. Carter, 33, whose wife, Juanita, lives at 496 Massachusetts Ave., Boston, Mass., attended a three-day religious retreat In Germany early this month. The purpose of the retreat is to provide the soldier with an opportunity to meditate and discuss religious matters with a chaplain of his faith. Sergeant Carter is assigned to the 121st Signal Detach ment in Germany. He entered the Army in January 1052 and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan., before arriving overseas in April of this year. JERRY ARNOLD AYSCUE M.iss Davis Becomes Bride Of Jerry Ayscue HENDERSON?In a candle light ceremony at the First Baptist Church Saturday af ternoon at four o'clock, Miss! Joan Elaine Davis became the bride of Jerry Arnold Ayscue. Dr. W. W. Leathers, Jr., pas tor, performed the double ring ceremony. The bride's parents are Mr. snd Mrs. John Hoyle Davis of 209 Burwell Avenue and the groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Ayscue of 1216 Hargrove Street. Mrs. Ayscue is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Fleming of Manson. Emerald fern stands formed a background for sprays of pink-tinted magnolia blossoms attached to brass candelabra holding burning sweet pink candles. Baskets of apple blossoms, pink gladioli, snap dragons and carnations flank ed standing seventeen-branch ea brass candelabra. Mrs. Phillip Young, organ ist, played a selection of wed ding music and Miss Sandra Stainback sang "O Perfect Love," "Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee" and "The Wed ding Prayer." The bride, given in mar riage by her father, wore a floorlength gown of silk or ganza over taffeta designed with a fitted bodice and cap sleeves. An applique of im ported Chantilly lace outlined the portrait neckline and flowed in an "A" shape down the front of the skirt and around the waist, ending in double loops of ogranza in the back. The full skirt fell into a chapel train. Her shoulder-length veil of im ported silk illusion was at tached to a headpice of or ganza rose petals surrounded by a ring of pearls. She car ried a cascale bouquet of Frenched white carnations and blue pink sweetheart roses centered with a white orchid. Miss Nancy Davis, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a street-length dress of petal pink organza made with a scoop neckline, cap sleeves and a draped bell skirt featuring an organza rose at the waist. Her hat was of matching organza petals with a circular veil. She carried a cascade bouquet of pink delight snapdragons, pink tinker bell carnations and red roses. Bridesmaids were Miss Judy Ayscue, sister of the bride groom, and Miss Susan Davis, sister of the bride. They wore dresses and hats like that of the honor attendant and carried bouquets of pink delight snapdragons and pink tinker bell carnations. Roy H. Ayscue was best man for. his son. Ushers Verie' Fried Kirkland and Bob by Daniel of Henderson; David Collins of Charlotte and Billy Fleming of Manson, cousinr of the bride. The bride's blush pink aisle cloth was rolled out by her brother, Russ Davis and her cousin, Preston Floyd. For her daughter's wed ding, Mrs. Davis wore a twi light blue casheen crepe orig inal dress with a Chantilly lace jacket and matching ac cessories. She wore a royal bouquet white orchid corsage. The bridegroom's mother wore an aqua maygashel linen original dress with accessories to match. She also wore a royal bouquet white orchid corsage. For the wedding trip the bride changed into a two piece rose linen ensemble, with which she used white accessories. She lifted the white orchid from her bou quet for her corsage. Mrs. Ayscue is a graduate of Henderson high school and is presently employed as a bookkeeper at Citizens Bank and Trust Company. Mr. Ayscue is a graduate of Henderson high school and Louisburg College. He is as sociated with Com-Fo Hosiery Mills of Henderson. Say you saw it advertised in The Warren Record. Mrs. Vernon Fleming Is Entertained Here Mrs. C. M. White, III, and Mrs. E. W. White entertained on Thursday night in the home of Mrs. C. M. White in honor of Mrs. Vernon Bennett Fleming, the former Miss Holly May of Norlina. The bride was presented a set of steak knives and a piece of silver in her chosen pattern by the hostesses. The guest list included friends of the bride and members of the immediate families. The bride was as sisted in opening her gifts by Mrs. Ellis Fleming, mother Df the bridegroom, Miss Delia Collier and Mrs. Amy Whit morc. Brid.il cakes and ices were served to the guests. Miss Allen Honored At Home Of Sister Miss Minnie Allen of Rich mond, Va., who became the bride of Charles Carroll of Richmond, Va.. and Warren ton, on July 5, was honored at a shower on Friday night in the home of her sister, Mrs. Thomas Strickland, with Mrs. Gilbert Egerton as co hostess. Cokes were served with cupcakes, potato chips, nuts and party sandwiches. Mrs. IV. T. Allen and Mrs. E. S. Strickland assisted in serving. The honoree was presented a corsage of white carna tions upon arrival. Attending Summer School Mrs. Elizabeth 0. Burwell of the Warren County Health Department is a summer school student at the Uni versity of North Carolina School of Public Health in Chapel Hill. Blackwell Magruder, daught er of Mr. and Mrs. John' Clifford Magruder of Arling ton, to James Ashburn Rawls, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ashburn Rawls of Richmond, took place at 3:30 p m. Saturday at Arlington Forest Methodist Church, Arlington, Va. Miss Magruder is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Scoggin and the niece of Dr. and Mrs. R. S. Jones, all of Warrenton. The Rev. Arthur McKlnley Reynolds officiated at the double ring ceremony. Nup tial music was presented by Miss Gloria Holland, soloist, and Mr. Vernon Joyner, or-i ganist. The bride, given in mar- j riage by her father, wore a! gown of silk organza with a. fitted bodice and sabrina! neckline enhanced with ale- i con lace, a modified bell skirt with cascades of velvet I ribbon i id motif of alecon lace along the front ending in a chapel train. Her veil fell from a cluster of taffeta tear drop flowers and she) carried a bouquet of roses and lily of the valley. Mrs. James Basil Thomas! of Newport News was the1 matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mils Gloria Holland of; Newport News, Va., Mrs. Hobby Neale of Richmond, Va., and Miss Jacqueline' Albrecht of Arlington, Va. Miss Scoggin Jones of War ronton was her cousin's junior bridesmaid. Their dresses were of pink peau de soie Dver taffeta and they carried bouquets of sweetheart roses. Walter Joyner Rawls of Richmond was his brother's best man. Ushers were Hob by Neale, Edgar Snyder and Dr. John Rawls all of Rich mond, and Sidney Jones of Warrenton. Mrs. Magruder chose for her daughter's wedding an aqua crepe dress trimmed with lace of matching color and tallisman roses. The mother of the groom wore a dress of champaigne peau de soie over taffeta and a cym bidium orchid. Immediately following the ceremony the bride's parents entertained at a reception honoring the bridal party. The bride, a graduate of Westhampton College in Rich mond, is now teaching in Henrico County, Va. The bridegroom attended Rich mond Professional Institute and is presently employed by Stone and Webster Engineer ing Corp. in Richmond. For traveling the bride chose a dress of yellow and white silk print with a full length white coat lined with the material of the dress. Her wide straw hat and ac cessories were of white. Wedding Supper Preceeding the rehearsal on Friday night the groom's parents entertained the wedd in party at a supper at the Little Teahouse in Alexan dria, Virginia. On the day of the wedding Mrs. Hodijah Meade and Mrs. John T. Martyn entertained the bridal party and out of town guests at the home of Mrs. Martyn.
