Woman's Club Holds Covered Dish Supper The Norllna Woman's Club held a covered dish supper at Us regular monthly meeting at the clubhouse on Wednesday evening of last week. Mrs. Alice Stultz, president, presided and Mrs. Mamie Weaver led the devotional. Mrs. Alice Stultz and Mrs. J. F. Bobbltt, club hostesses for the month, served the dessert for the covered dish supper, consisting of delicious home made pineapple ice cream and pound cake. Mrs. R. H. Fuller was wel comed as a new member. Mrs. Eleanor Hayes announced that Patricia Franke will receive the gift for the chosen Norllna High School senior. Mrs. Graham Grlssom intro duced the guest speaker, Mrs. Raymond Harris of Frankllnion, who spoke on "Public Affairs." The next regular meeting of the Norllna Woman's Club will be held on the first Wednesday evening in September. Baptist WMS Holds Covered Dish Supper Twenty-seven members of the Woman's Missionary So ciety gathered at the Norlina Baptist Church on Monday even ing at 7 o'clock where they enjoyed adeliclous covered dish supper. At 8 o'clock the group as sembled in the church sanc tuary for the regular monthly meeting which was presided over by the chairman, Mrs. R. H. Fuller. The program, "TheMisslon ary Associate)," was spoijsored by the Grace McBrlde .Circle.' Those taking part were Mes dames Margaret Felts, Mae Gums, Mary Ella Abbott and Jean Williams. The Junior GA Camp was discussed. The attendance award went to the Grace Mc Brlde Circle. Ruritan Club Holds Regular Meeting The Norllna Ruritan Club held its regular monthly dinner meeting at the clubhouse last Tuesday night with 34 attending. Paul Lancaster, president, pre sided. Th?.program consisted of the showing of interesting slides on Gaston Lake. Leigh Traylor and C. E. Tucker were program chairmen. RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIPS Dan L. Bowers, a teacher at Sherwood Bates School in Raleigh for the past two years, has received scholarships from Duke University and from the Raleigh school system for grad uate work in Education Ad ministration at Duke Univer sity. Dan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Bowers of Norllna, is a graduate of Norllna High School. He received a B. S. degree from East Carolina Col lege in Greenville. Miss Weldon Receives Master Music Degree Miss Ida Irene Weldon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hamilton Weldon of Norlina, re ceived a Master of Music de gree from the New England Con servatory In Boston at the music college's ninety-fifth Com mencement Exercises on June IS. Miss Weldon was one of thirty-seven recipients of Mas ter's degrees in ceremonies held in Jordan Hall, the Con servatory's world-famous con cert auditorium. A voice major, she has studied under the di rection of Miss Gladys Miller. Miss Weldon is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an interna tional professional fraternity for women in the field of music, and Pi Kappa Lambda, the na tional honorary music society.
