I'KOM Junior-Senior Prom Held Here On Friday The Junior Class of the John Graham High School pre sented the annual Junior-Sen ior Prom at the school gym last Friday night in honor of the seniors. The theme, "Tonight," was carried out as a garden party. The seniors entered the gym through the door of the back entrance of a large house. In the far end of the gym was a summerhouSe which served as .1 b.u: !.-t.ihd. :<e-:d" ??.?? bandst and wa? a formal garden with flowering ins, pnnsies. and wild roses. At 10 O ' lmk the gue.-,ts were served refreshment: consisting of ptuu h. open-fat e sandwiches, stuft- ! dai"s. and cheesestl aw - Norlina High School Has Jr.- Senior Prom The Junior Class of Nor lina High School presented its junior - senior prom, "Ebb Tide," on Friday night, May 6, in the school gym. The gym wis enchant ingl\ decorated. The blue back grounds swept the guests into a dream world of ocean tides and moonlight. One of the more outstanding focal points was a realistic lighthouse sur rounded by sand and rocks. To take pictures the couples sat in a boat in iront of a moonlight water scene. The seniors were introduc ed as they walked across the boardwalk and began the even ing o( dancing with the first dance, "Ebb Tide.'' ? Alice Moody, president of the senior class thanked tie juniors lor the nice program. FHA Honors Parents At Dinner The John Graham Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held a buffet dinner honoring their mothers and father on Wednesday, May 18, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R, D. Harmon on the beauti ful and spacious lawn over looking the lake. The two central buffet tables were beautifully appointed with arrangements of red roses on one end and peonies on the other. Arrangements of red roses, the FHA flow er, were used on the indivi dual tables where guests were seated. Segrtd Ellis, president, welcomed the parents and guests. The Rev. J. M. Long gave the blessing. Delicious barbecue, slaw, brunswick stew, potato chips, rolls, icecream, cake squares and iced tea were served. Following the dinner Emily B, Person, advisor, presented degrees of achievement to the following: Junior degree Sandra Copley, Nancy Ayscue, Bonnie Carter, Jeanette Har ris, Sandra Munn, Evelyn Dil lard, Gayle Serls, Jane Con nell, Deborah King, Linda King, Terry Mustlan, Dlanne Pennell, Margaret Robertson, Melba Thompson, and Mary Ann Davis. Chapter degrees were awarded to Valerie Miles, Debbie Roberts, Beverly Johnson, Rachel Dong, Sarah Reams, Laura Turner, Helen Diamond, Ellen Mustlan, and Suzanne Rudd. FHA officers for the year 1946-67 were presented as follows: Beverly Johnson, president; Rachel Long, vice-president; Valerie Miles, secretary; ' en# Cornell, treasurer; Deb bie Roberta, recreation lead %fiii Valerie Miles, Jane Connell, Deborah King, Linda King, Sandra Copley. Approximately one hundred persons attended. Miss Williams Is Member Of Singers Miss Jane Williams, daugh ter of Mr. ami Mrs. Alfred A, Williams, Jr., of Fairview St., is a new member of the Undertones, an informal sing ing group at Hoi; ins College. The Undertones entertain at a number of informal gather ings during the college year, and new members are select ed through competitive audi tions. Miss Williams, afreshman, was her class representative to the May Court and re presentative to the Religious Life Association. She also is a r- iber of Ochesis, Hollins' . ming dance group. Weldon Downs Norlina Weldon?The Weldon High School "Tornadoes" added the Roanoke Athletic Conference baseball crown to their foot ball and basketball champion ships here on Wednesday afternoon of last week by de feating Norllna 1-0. David Merrltt pitched all the way to get the win. He allowed only one hit, walked two and struck out five Nor lina batters. Merrltt led off the winning rally with a single. Luther Cochrane ran for him as the coaches for both teams had agreed to allow their pit chers to have a pinch runner. Cochrane scored the winning run on an error, a hit by'l Roy Lee Jones, and was drlv- | en home by Archer Harrell. Charles Draffln pitched all the way (or Norllna. He gave up one run, three hits, walk ed (our and struck out seven In the losing case. The "Tornadoes" took the (lrst o( Its two wins In the best of three Conference play offs by defeating Norllna on Its home field by a 2-0 score In the ninth Inning. Stanley Mabrey pitched the win for Weldon. He allowed no runs on three hits, walk ing three and striking out 10. John Moody took the loss for Norllna. He gave up two runs on seven hits, walking one and fanning five, Weldon's two winning runs In Tuesday's game came In the ninth on a single by Terry Frazler, a sacrifice by David Merrltt, a triple by Roy Lee Jones and a single by Archer Harrell. During the regular season Weldon won the eastern divi sion of the Roanoke Confer ence with a 5-1 record while Norllna won, the western divi sion with a 7-1 record. Training Brigade, U, S. Army training Center, Infantry, for eight weeks of basic training. During this program, he will receive Instruction In general military subjects to prepare him for more specialized training. Prior to his arrival at Fort Dlx on Dec. 28, 1965, Green, grandson of Mrs. Annie B. Green, Rt. 1, Macon, N. C. graduated from North Warren High School.
