Stan ley and daughter, Barbara, of Lawrenceville, Va., visited Miss Helen Delbridge and Mrs. W. A. Delbridge last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Lyles were Saturday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gar l&nd Cottrell and family in Red Springs. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Wil son of Clinton visited Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Arnold on Sunday. Walter Weaver of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Weaver. Charles Hayes of East Carolina College, Greenville, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Eleanor Hayes, and grandmother, Mrs. A. G. Spain. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Nor wood and sons, and Mr. and Mrs. W. C? are visiting Mrs. Blanche Burroughs and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Burroughs in Afton this week. The Rev. M. W. Dulin, J. Fred White, Hal Paschall, Harry Sabrowskl, George Richardson, Ervln Cleaton and William Hicks represented Zion Church at the Lay Ral ly held at Edenton Street Methodist Church in Raleigh on Tuesday evening. The Rev. Bruce Pate spent Tuesday in Kinston with his mother, Mrs. B. M. Pate, who underwent surgery at Le noir Hospital. Mrs. G. O. Stultz, sr., Is visiting Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Stultz and family in Smith field. Mrs. Hal Paschall spent Monday in Oxford with her stepfather, Mr. c. T. Knott, who underwent surgery at Granville County Hospital. WMS TO MEET The general Woman's Mis sionary Society will meet at the Norllna Baptist Church on Monday, Fab. 1?, at 7:30 p.m. BREAKS HIP Mrs. Mamie White suffered * broken hip rf her home last week. She is a patient ** Duke Hospital where she underwent surgery on her hip week and an emergency kidney operation on Monday Hrs. Taylor Honors Mother On Birthday Mrs. Clayton Taylor enter tained at her home on Wal ker Avenue last Friday from 3 to 5 p. m., honoring her mother, Mrs. Jerman Walker, on her birthday. Also sharing birthday honors were Mrs. L. C. Davis of Warranton, and Mrs. J. O. Egerton, Mrs. A. S. Wyckoff, Mrs. M. E. Walker and Mrs. William Brauer, all of Norlina. The home was tastefully decorated throughout with Ca mellias. Guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Yancey Gordon of South Hill, Va. The honorees were pre sented corsages upon arrival. Mrs- Gordon directed the guests to the receiving line from which they were invited into the dining room, where a pink and white color scheme was used. The table bore a centerpiece consisting of a pink and white flower arrange ment and on one end of the table was the decorated birth day cake on a silver cake stand. Mrs. L. W? Bowers was assisted by Miss Minnie Harris in pouring punch and party dainties were served by Miss Mary Dowell Taylor. Around 65 attended the party. Circle 1 Meets With Mrs. Leigh Tray lor Circle No. 1 of the Wo man's Society of Christian Service met on Monday after noon at the home of Mrs. Leigh Traylor, who is president of the WSCS of the Norlina Methodist Church. Mrs. W. A. Delbrldge, leader, pre> sided. "Meditation Across the At lantic" was the topic of the program presented by Mrs. S. H. Haywood. During the business ses sion it was announced that the annual church revival will be held March 12-17 with the Rev. Kimsey King of Ahoskie as the guest preacher, and that the World Day of Prayer would be held Friday night, Feb. 10, at 7:30 o'clock, with a Joint meeting of the Baptist and ^Zlon churches. Mrs. Ethel Hawks invited the circle to meet with her and Mrs. Eva Hayes at the home of Mrs. Clyde Edwards in March. Following the meeting, the hostess served ice cream, cake, mints and coffee to the 13 present. Circle 2 Meets At Home Of Mrs. Traylor Circle No. 2 of the Wo man's Society of Christian Service of the Norlina Metho dist Church held its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. R- L. Traylor with Mrs. Dwight Scotten as co-hostess. Mrs. M. C. Hicks, circle lea der, presided and led the de votional. The program on "The Christian and the Moslem" was given by Mrs. J. B. Lewis. The hostesses served de licious refreshments in keep ing with the Valentine motif to the 16 present. Circle 3 Meets With Mrs. C#g lewis Circle No. 3 of the Woman's Society of Christian Service held its February meeting on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Coy Lewis with 17 mem bers and one visitor present. Tanner Mr. and Mrs. James Sa'iuel Atkins of South Hill, Virginia, announce the engagement of their daughter, Verna Fran ces, to Joseph Speed Jones Tanner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Thomas Tanner of Palmer Springs. Miss Atkins Is a senior at Averett College, Danville, Virginia. Mr. Tanner Is attending North Carolina State Univer sity, Raleigh. A summer wedding Is plan ned. Mr. Tanner Is the grand son of Mrs. Joseph Speed Jones of Warrenton. Woman's Club Members Tour Norlina Plant The Norlina Woman's Club held its regular monthly meet ing on Wednesday night of last week at the club house with. Mrs. Eleanor Hayes, Mrs. R. H. Fuller and Mrs. Jim Hundley as hostesses. Mrs. L. A. Kilian, president, pre sided. A meditation, "Are You Carrying the Cross?" was given by Mrs. L. C. Davis. The program consisted of a tour of Warren Industries, Inc., with the manager, Mrs. Margaret Weber, tellingofthe equipment and the operation in making the garments. The group then returned to the club housefor the business session and the social hour. The hostesses served Valentine motif ice cream, cake squares and coffee to the 22 in attendance. Mrs. Hayes Hostess To Church Group Mrs. W. Roy Hayes was hostess to the Zion Woman's Society of Christian Service at her home in Norlina on Monday evening with a large attendance. Mrs. J. F. White, assisted by Mrs. Hayes, gave an in teresting program on "Across the Atlantic." Mrs. C. P. Rooker, society chairman, presided over the routine business session. Mrs. George Robinson will entertain the society In March. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Perkinson The Wise Bridge Club met on Wednesday afternoon of last week with Mrs. Clanton C. Perkinson. The home was decorated in spring flowers. Mrs. J. W. Perry was pre sented the high score prize and Mrs. Melissa Glenn of Hen derson received the bingo prize. Mrs. A. C. Blalock of Warrant on received the visi tor's high score prize and Mrs. Malvln Hayes of Hen derson received the floating gift. Barbara Hawks To Attend Wesylan ROCKY MOUNT-Barbara Jean Hawks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hawks of Route 1, Box 119, Warrenton, had been accepted for admis sion to N. C. Wesleyan Col lege for the 1967 fall semes ter as a transfer student from Loulsburg Junior College. Miss Hawks Is one of 250 new students expected next year at the co-educational Methodist liberal arts college here. N. C. Wesleyan, recent ly accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, this year enrolled 686 students from 51 N. C. counties, 16 other states and 7 foreign countries. A sophomore English ma jor at Loulsburg College, Miss Hawks Is a member of the Psychology Fraternity, news paper reporter, and a member o* the Homecoming Court.
