White, Sr. MISS REBECCA JO CHAMPION of Roanokf Rapids, whose engagement to Mr. Stanley Clark Crew of Pleasant Hill is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Duke Champion of Henderson. Mr. Crew is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ellis Crew of Pleasant Hill. Miss Champion is the granddaughter of Mrs. Annie Duke Champion of Manson and the late John T. Champion. A September 16 wedding is planned at the West End Baptist Church in Henderson at 3 o'clock. Jr. Club Executive Board Holds Meeting The ExecutiveCommitteeof the Norlina Junior Woman's Club met on Monday, July 3, In the home of Mrs. Walter Hundley, president. Mrs. Hundley discussed the budget for the new year at some length. She also review ed the money-making projects for the club as well as the projects the club would help out with starting this fall. Pro jects the club will undertake will be the Norlina Library, Music in the Norlina High School, a clothing closet for the community and a scholar ship for a deserving senior and many other community projects. Mrs. Gus Daeke, first-vice president of the club and pro gram book chairman, dis cussed the new year books and received ideas for them. She also announced that plans were being made for several story-hours at the library. Mrs. Harry Leete, second vice-president and program chairman, discussed pro grams for the coming year and the committees serving on each. Mrs. Owen Robertson, State Clothing Closet Chairman, in formed the club of information obtained when she attended the Summer Institute and Junior Board Meeting in Raleigh at the Voyager Inn, June 29 and 30. A report of work done by the representatives of the club to the N. C. Association of Laundries and Cleaners "Let's Clean" Committee of Norlina was given by Mrs. Stephen Daniel. She stated some 40 personal letters had been sent to property own ers In Norlina asking them to cooperate with the committee in beautifying Norlina. Mrs. Hundley read the new list of standing committees and the meeting adjourned un til their regular meeting night in September. Old-Fashioned Picnic Held At Farrar Yard Residents of Gaines Street and Evergreen Acres enjoyed an old-fashioned 4th of July picnic on Tuesday afternoon in the yard of Mr, and Mrs. Julian Farrar. Preceeding the picnic, the children staged a parade, complete with the American Flag, music and majorettes. C? has been selected for technical train ing at Chanute AFB, 111., as a U. S. Air Force Aircraft equipment repairman. The airman recently com pleted basic training at Lack land AFB, Tex. His new school Is part of the Air Training Command which conducts hundreds of specialized courses to provide technically trained personnel for the na tion's aerospace force. Mrs. Julian Farrar, president, presided. An interesting program, which compared the work of American Methodist Women to the work of the British Methodist women, was pre sented by Mrs. James Knight. During the social hour, the hostess served a delicious sweet course. Beautiful summer flowers decorated the entire lower floor. Perktnson is chief of the Maintenance Readiness Divi sion, Directorate of Materiel Maintenance, at Ft. Bragg. He entered the Ariny In October 1965. The lieutenant graduated in 1961 from Norllna high School, and received his B. S. degree from North Carolina ?State University, Raleigh. N. C. He received RIs? commission through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at the uni versity. His wife, Linda, is with him at the fort. STEW SALE The Zlon Methodist Church will sponsor a Brunswick stew sale at the church on Wednesday, July 12. The stew, at $1.00 per quart, will be ready by noon. North Carolina flue-cured tobacco growers received an average of about 68 cents per pound for their 1966 crop. Prices were 3 l/2 cents above 1965 and the highest on record.
