Hundreds Present For
Christmas Sing Here
Between 400 and 500 persons I
gathered at the Christmas
Sing around a Christmas tree
on the court house square on
Wednesday night. Among the
group were many children gath
ered to greet Santa Claus who
came to the courthouse square
on a fire truck and later greet
ed the children in his house
on the squar .
The Sing was sponsored by
the Warrenton Junior Club.
Mrs. Sam Webster, club pub
licity chairman, said yester
day that it was a decided suc
cess. It didn't rain, she said;
the crowd was good, the sing
ing was excellent, and the chil
dren appeared extremely happy
as they greeted Santa Claus.
Mrs. Webster said the suc
cess of the Sing was due to
the splendid cooperation of the
public and asked that each and
every one who assisted in
any way be thanked for their co
operation.
The singing was directed by
Robert Macon Davis, choir
leader at John Graham High
School. Featuring the Sing were
special numbers by Leonard
Daniel, Misses Laura Bennie
Davis and Nancy Williams,
Miss Janet Gardner and Miss
Jennifer Taylor, and Miss Amy
Kilgore, with Mrs. Leonard
Daniel and Mrs. G. W. King
serving as pianists.
A feature of the program
was the live nativity scene
with Mr. and Mrs. Claiborne
B. Aycock and their two sons,
Ben and Mike, as Joseph and
Mary and two shepherds,
respectively. John Blalock was
the third shepherd, April An
drews and Jennifer Harris were
angels. Jack Harris, Bill Con
nell and Charles Renn were
Wise Men.
The Rev. L. T. Wilson,
pastor of Wesley Memorial
Methodist Church, gave a
Christmas reading.
Mrs. Webster said yester
day that she was not good at
estimating crowds, but that the
200 programs that the Junior
Woman's Club had printed were
not half enough.
