Carolina Sportswear Factory held open house on Sunday afternoon from one to five o'clock with more than 1100 persons present for a tour qf the building and to view many of the machines. Guests were greeted by Miss Gayle Fleming, Mrs. Ann Bur nett, Mrs. Bettle Gillespie, Mrs. Barbara Walker, Mrs. Goldle Baskett and Miss Lena Robertson, who were seated at reception tables at the entrance to the mechanical department of thefactory. Here guests were registered and presented pen cils. A number of these pen cils contained silver lettering, which meant that the recipient was entitled to a free shirt. John Andrews, plant manager, said that 11 shirts were distributed during the after noon by Mrs. Katherlne Hol ler. From the reception tables, guests toured the large building to see the construction of gar ments from the cutting tables, to the stitching machines, but ton-hole machines, and other machines used to complete the garment. Many of the regular operators were at the machines to give demonstrations and to answer questions. . Following the inspection of the machinery guests moved into the cafeteria where coffee, soft drinks and light refresh ments were served. Serving were Mesdames Florence Thompson. Gertie Vaughan, Louise Taylor, Shelby Hicks, Cora Green, Irene Edwards, and Ann Hawks, Lending a festive air to the occasion were hundreds of balloons which were given to children and floated from strings. Manager John Andrews said yesterday that the management was very much pleased with the attendance of the plants open house and believes it js another testimony of the fine relation ship that exists between Car olina Sportswear and the com munity. He listed the heads of the committee which made the event a success as follows: Reception, Mrs. Maybelle Williams; Clean - up, Mrs. Margaret Gooch; Refreshments, Mrs. Florence Thompson and Pub licity, Mrs. Pat Rivers.
