Thompson 1.55 Romance Thrower 3.10 pening to America, and that not enough Is belngdone about them. It's abundantly clear that the average American still believes In and upholds the fundamental freedoms and principles upon which our nation was founded and built. He knows there can be no real freedom without or der, and without respect for law. Regrettably, even one bomb thrower or sniper or malevolent ringleader can throw our society into turmoil, disturbing the lives of millions of solid citizens who work hard, bother no one, and respect the rights of others. And, as we all know, there are many bomb-throwers in America; there are many re bellious people; there are many dlsruptors of public order. Our newspapers keep us constantly aware of these challenges to the beliefs and institutions which have made America the great est and the most powerful na tion in the history of God's creation. Today our big city streets are more dangerous than even the toughest frontier town of the old west, and just as wild. Our public schools are in a state of near chaos as a result of Federally - Inspired mis direction. And I might note that the Nixon Administration Is no better than previous Adminis trations in this regard, per haps worse ? because it has misled our people. Pornography is freely avail able in every state of the na tion, including North Carolina and the President's Commis sion on Pornography is on the verge of officially endorsing a wildly permissive "study" of the problem which complete ly ignores the accumulated wisdom of mankind. Dope ? now fashionably call ed by other names?is in fre quent use by members of every level of society from top to bottom? young and old alike. Despite all this, I disagree with those who say that America Is sick. It isn't really sick. It's sick and tired and weary of what's going on, and wants to see things return to an even keel. K is crying for courag eous and responsible leader ship in all walks of life?in government yes, but in homes, churches and schools and es pecially on college and uni versity campuses. We are In desperate need of more responsible leaders on every level, but, even more Im portantly, we need a more ag gressive Christian citizenship ?men and women who oppose lawlessness whenever and wherever it occurs, citizens who will support the curbing of unnecessary government spending even when they them Changes May Be In Order After 65 RALEIGH-If you have had 65 birthdays or more, you may be planning to make some changes In your dally routine. Although many activities may be changed or eliminated, eat ing certainly will not be one of them, observes Mrs. Marjorle Donnelly, extension foods spec ialist, North Carolina State University. For all llle long you need food that contains nutrients needed for upkeep of body tissues and bones. Although a good diet over the years Is recommended, it is I never too late to improve your ' own well-being by Improving your diet. Surveys show that diets of many older persons are lacking In milk, protein rich foods and citrus fruits in adequate amount, Mrs. Donnelly points out. In addition, the diets these persons choose often result in overweight. Now that you have more lei sure time, Mrs. Donnelly sug gests you plan your meals In advance. Include meat, milk, breads and cereals and vege tables and fruits In these meals, she advises. One factor that may make cooking seem dull Is using the leftovers thai can accumulate when cooking for only one or two. So Mrs. Donnelly offers these tips on how to make left overs mouthwatering. selves may be the victims of i such wisdom, citizens willing to help curb inflation and above all, willing to make whatever sacrifices may be necessary to preserve our moral and spirit ual heritage. We should never lose sight of the dreams and Ideals of the men and women who built Amer ica and who cherished the con cept of a great and free so ciety with opportunity for all. Combine leftovers In a one dish meal. Meat combines with macaroni, vegetables or rice. Add a cheese or tomato sauce or Just plain white sauce and heat in a baking dish. Chopped tomatoes, greenonions orchiv es give extra flavor and color to the dish. Top a tossed salad with cut scrips of leftover cooked meat or poultry. Mix leftover cooked vegeta bles with raw fresh ones, such as chopped celery, cucumber i slices, tomatoes, green pep pers or shredded cabbage. Serve vegetables, meat, fish or chicken with a tasty sauce. Use a can of tomato, cheese or mushroom soup for a quick and easy one. A hard-cooked egg may stretch the dish If it Is a bit skimpy. Add a bit of relish, snappy cheese or diced cucumber to a cooked dressing for meat or vegetable salad. As areward of planning meals In advance and usli.g leftovers Imaginatively, you will feel bet ter and will enjoy all your acti vities to the fullest extent, Mrs. Donnelly concludes.
