Local Man Tapped For General's Post Air Force Col. Charles B. Jiggetts, commander of the Northern Communication# Area at Griffiss Air Force Rase, N. Y.. has been selected for promotion to the rank of brigadier general. The brigadier general selectee, a native of Henderson, is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Farnest W. Jiggetts. Mr. Jiggetts was from Wise, and Mrs. .liggetts was the former Queen Victoria Wright, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James S.Wright of Palijier Springs. Va. The new brigadier general is the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. ■ easar Wright, who live in Palmer'Sprim's, Va. He is also !}'•■ nephew of Mr. and Mrs. . leveland Anderson of Warreninn. Mr- I.izene Wright and Mrs. Beatrice Anderson are daughters of.the late Mr. and Vrv. .1 anie.t B. Plummer, [i.ng time residents of Warreninn. JIGGETTS including tours as a flying officer in jet aircraft (radar intercept officer), administrative officer, and as communications-electronics staff officer at 7th Air Force Headquarters near Saigon, South Vietnam. Since 1967 he has completed communications staff officer assignments at Headquarters lT. S. Strike Command. Tampa, Fla.; in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon; and at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, Omaha, Neh. Colonel Jiggetts has served in other duty locations in Alaska, Guam and the states of Texas, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, Delaware, California, Mississippi and Washington State. Temporary duty assignments have been Hawaii, the Azores, Spain, Morocco. Italy, Greece, Turkey. Iran, Ethiopia, Senegal. Ghana, Liberia and Ascension Island. He was promoted to full colonel in 1969. In October 1971 he was selected by the Department of Defense as military assistant to the Director, Office of Telecommunications Policy, Executive Office of the President. He served as the director'spersonal representative in effecting liaison with the executive agent of the National Communications System, the Department of Defense, the military assistant to the President: members of Congress: other federal departments and agencies, and the communications industry. On July 31. 1974 he reported to Northern Communications Area Headquarters as vice commander. He assumed his present position on July 10, 1976, Colonel Jiggetts" has completed the associate programs of the Air Command and Staff College. Air War College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Decorations he has earned include the Legion of Merit, with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Bronze Star, the Joint Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was also awarded the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. He is married to the former Barbara Mosley of Frederica, Del., and they have a daughter, Vicky.
