Children Study Card Catalog At Vaughan School The children in grades three through seven at Vaughan Elementary School studied the use of the card catalog in the library. The card catalog is actually a cabinet filled with drawers. Cards filed in alphabetical order are in the drawers. These cards are an alphabetical guide to the materials in the library. Actually it is a large index similar to the index in the back of a book. The students viewed a film strip on the card catalog, they worked on skill cards and practiced with cards like those in the catalog. The younger children in K-2 viewed educational television programs. They also became familiar with the title page of a book. The title page shows the title of'the book, the author, illustrator, publisher. The copyright date is found on the back of the title page in most books. It is important for children to become aware of these facts about the books they read. There are displays of interesting books concerning units of study in some classes.
