was presented Mrs. Fleming
by the Rev. Nat Burgess,
present minister of the
church, from the Norlina
Methodist Church.
The guest speaker for the
occasion was the Rev. Bruce
Pate of Grace Memorial
Methodist Church, a former
minister of the Norlina
Methodist Church.
The Rev. Mr. Pate in
recounting the days and
hours spent with Mrs.
Fleming, took his theme
from a song from the
"Sound of Music" in
describing this remarkable
lady. "Many words can be
used to describe this lady;
however, two stand outBeautiful
and Vitality,"
stated the Rev. Mr. Pate. "I
remember once Mrs. Fleming
saying, 'If I had known I
was going to live so long, I
would have taken better
care of myself.' "
Pate continued, "I understand
now that her favorite
pastime is riding with her
physician in his new sports
car."
The Rev. Mr. Burgess
read a history of the church
which was written by
Lucille Rose Uzzle of Dunn,
a former member of the
church and whose father, O.
A. Rose, was a charter
member.
Special music was prepared
for the occasion with
soloists being the Rev. Mr.
Pate and Patricia hicks,
accompanied by Mrs. A. B.
Hair.
There were out-of-town
guests from five states and
five generations of the
Fleming family in attendance.
