N.W. Holds Promotion,
Special Awards Program
North Warren Middle
School held its Promotion
and Special Awards Program
on June 10. The
program honored the seventh
graders and the outgoing
eighth graders. The exercises
began at 9:30 a. m.
The greeting was delivered
by Lori Seward and the
invocation by Carrie Collins.
Greg Fleming introduced
the guest speaker. A very
encouraging speech was
delivered by Lawyer Frank
Ballance of Warrenton.
Teachers presented students
with achievement
awards in subject areas and
in athletics.
Four special awards were
given by Mr. Rose. They
were the Best Ail-Around
Boy and Girl; Tony Long
and Teresa Dickerson; and
Most Academic Boy and
Girl, Allen Walker and Mary
Durham.
The ceremony was concluded
with remarks by Mr.
Rose congratulating students,
parents and friends.
Several parents, patrons
and friends attended the
special program.

Senior Citizens' Annual Picnic
Held On Alston Home Lawn
The annual Senior Citizens
clubs picnic was held on
the lawn at the residence of
Mr. and Mrs. McCarroll
Alston on West Franklin St.,
on Saturday, June 11.
The group sang "The
More We Get Together."
Greetings were extended to
everyone, including guests
from New York City, New
Jersey, Henderson, Louisburg,
and in-county by Mrs.
McCarroll Alston.
The prayer of Thanksgiving
was offered by Mrs.
Marie V. Block, and the
many attractively arranged
varied dishes of foods and
drinks were thoroughly
enjoyed.
Wins Promotion
Marine Corporal James
D. Holloway, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jordan B. Holloway of
Route 1, Norlina and whose
wife, Hazel, is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Juneous
Talley of Norlina, has been
promoted to his present
rank while serving at
Marine Corps Base Camp
Lejeune.
A 19Y5 graduate of Norlina
High School, he joined the
Marine Corps in June 197S.
Bingo, conducted by Mrs.
Alston, with assistance from
Mrs. Willie C. Kearney,
provided enjoyable entertainment,
and the winners
were pleasantly surprised
with prizes won. Everyone
appreciated the ball point
pens presented by Mr.
Alston.
Gifts, from the clubs,
were presented to the four
oldest persons whose ages
ranged from 80-46. They
were Mesdames Elnora S.
Adams, Ethel Kearney,
Edna Malone and Boyd
Nicholson.
There were many favorable
comments during the
brief "free expression period,"
and the Alstons were
thanked for their hospitality.
The group was adjourned
immediately following the
singing of "God Be With
You."
