Warrior defenders Joey Threewitts (21), Scott Williams (33) and an unidentified player halt a Wilson ballcarrier at the line of scrimmage on a conversion run by the \ isitors who beat Warren Academy, 14-6. (Staff Photo) Warriors Again Succumb To Final Second Score For the second time in as many ballgames Warren Academy has led a football game for almost four complete quarters before falling to defeat as the result of mistakes and penalties. The most recent loss came here Friday afternoon when Warrior fans saw Wilson Academy score two touchdowns after the two-minute warning had been given to register a 15-6 win. Wilson defenders keyed on Warren Academy's leading ground gainer. Victor Coleman. so the running duties were shifted to Tim Capps. quarterback. Capps rushed for 51 yards and passed for another 45. Coleman was curtailed in his running game but excelled on his defensive play, making 16 assisted tackles and one solo. Jerry Brown led the Warriors' defensive attack with five unassisted tackles and a blocked punt. Wilson puited two times during the gajne and the Warrior;? blocited both attempts. Scott Williams blocked the other punt and intercepted a Wilson pass. A second pass by the visitors was intercepted by Hinton Lee Austin. Up until the last minutes of play when Wilson captured a win, Warren had held the visitors to 47 yards passing, the winning plays were passes. The scheduled game at Durham Academy Friday afternoon has been cancelled according to Coach Jim Kearney, head football coach. He said that Durham didn't have enough players to make up a squad. The next scheduled game for theWarriors will be seen here on Sept. 23, when they host Halifax Academy, defending conference and state independent school champion. Gametime is set at 4 p. m. Contract Is Signed For Oxford Facility A statement in the Warren Record issue of Sept. 8 that the contract for a nursing home in Oxford had not been signed was in error. The misstatement was due to misinterpretation of information given the Warren County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday * of last • wee? *Ky' ftenry Pleasant of the Capital Health Systems Agency by Warren Record Reporter Bignall Jones Pleasants said "As of Tuesday, the assignment of a nursing home for Region K has not been made. Several nursing home operators have expressed the fear that too many nursing homes are being built. Governor Hunt has put the distribution of nursing facilities on a hold plan until some investigation is made according to the need. It seems that 42 beds are needed per 1000 citizens aged 65 or older, so the governor is doing a little investigating. It is hoped that the location of a new facility in Region K will be assigned by Nov. 1." The Record reporter interpreted this to mean that no contract had been awarded for the facility in Oxford. Pleasant has notified this newspaper that the facility in Oxford has already been approved and the contract signed. His reference was that it was possible that a second facility might be needed in Region K. with a possibility it may be built in Warrenton. The Warren Record regrets the error and any embarrassment it may have caused Mr. Pleasant or Mrs. Parham. who will operate the Oxford Nursing Home. John Graham, seeking its first win of the season, scored the first touchdown of the contest on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Darryl Lyles to Victor Harrison, flanker in the opening frame. The PAT pass to Melvin Robinson, standing in the endzone alone, was good. Enfield came back in the same quarter with a touchdown run by Cougar quarterback, Jesse Hilton. Warrenton went to the dressing room for halftime with an 8-6 lead. The Yellow Jackets won the second half toss and elected to receive. Danny Pitchford, fullback, fumbled the kick-off, recovering his fumble on the Jackets' 25 yard line. Lyles went to work and marched his team down field to set up Warrenton's second and final touchdown of the evfojag, a one-yard dive by Brownja Alston. The PAT kick by Lyles was wide to the left. The PAT run was stopped by Warrenton. Warrenton contained the inside running game of Enfield fairly well, according to Coach Bill Frazier. What hurt his team was poor field position, inconsistent defensive play and the big play (on Enfield's part) he said. "Unless we start playing some good defense, its going to be a long season," Frazier stated. Friday night Warrenton will host Brunswick County, Va. An 8 p. m. kick-off is scheduled. Two Waves Share Honor For the remainder of the football season, a Wave of the Week will be picked by the coaches. This week the honor goes to two football players, David Rowlette and Clifton Greene. Both players played an outstanding game both defensively and offensively. "Pancho" Greene made a touchdown and rushed. ,65. yards on eight carries. He made 11 tackles, two assists and four sacks. He also recovered a fumble. Rowlette "The Machine" made two touchdowns and completed two two-point conversions. He rushed 161 yards on 21 carries. He also recovered a fumble, ,, Rowlette, Green Power Norlina To Grid Victory David Rowlette and Clifton "Pancho" Green, premier runningbacks for Noriina, rushed for over 200 yards en route to the Blue Waves 22-0 romp over Park View here Friday night. Rowlette, an all-conference linebacker, scored the first Norlina touchdown on a 27-yard sprint. He added the two-point conversion and Norlina gained an 8-0 lead midway the first quarter. The only scoring threat that Park View posed in the first half was squashed when Green and Charlie Bullock sacked the Dragon quarterback for a sizeable loss, forcing the visitors to punt late in the half. Norlina started downs on the 40-yard line and moved across the midfield mark before Johnny Fleming was trapped in his own backfield for a loss. A Park View punter was sacked on the 10-yard line, giving the Blue Waves excellent field position with seconds remaining in the half. Darnell Champ caught a Fleming pass in the end-zone for touchdown, but it was called back due to a penalty against Norlina. Park View received the second half kick and started downs on their own 29-yard line. Making a first down against Norlina's defensive was impossible at this point, * so they were forced to punt. On the series of downs following the punt and a short run by Rowlette, Green burst through the Dragon front line on a draw play for a 40-yard touchdown run. The PAT kick by Shelton Hunter was blocked by Park View. After a few exchanges of downs, Darnell Champ intercepted a Park View pass and scampered 41 yards to the Norlina four yard line. On the next play from scrimmage, Rowlette crossed the goal for a touchdown. Again he made his conversion run for an eight-point play. With little success, Park View went to the air in the closing minutes of the contest. Larry Vaughan killed their last hope ofg scoring when he intercepted™ a pass in the end zone late in* the final quarter.
