Walter Weaver and daughters. Crystal and Leslie of Rocky Mount, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Weaver, during the weekend. Mrs. Paul Brauer has returned home after spending several days at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Herring of Newton Grove visited Mr. and Mrs Clayton Taylor and family. Mrs. Maggie Adcock of Norlina and Mrs. Molly Haithcock of Macon spent the weekend in Wakefield, Va., with Mrs. Clara Holt and Linda. They attended the Holt reunion in Franklin, Va. on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Harvey of Enfield visited his sisters, Mrs. H. Dempt and Mrs. C. E. Tucker last Thursday Mr. and Mrs Henry Wiggins visited relatives in Durham on Sunday. Mrs, Bessie Dalton returned home Friday after spending several months with Mr. and Mrs. T. T. Hawks in Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Cy Wheeler of Oxford spent Monday afternoon in Norlina. Mrs. Wayne (Eleanor) Whit more returned home Sunday from Warren General Hospital where she had been a patient. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Walker and F. M. Egerton spent Monday afternoon in Durham. HECHT ft SONS NorNna, N. C. GA's Attend Retreat At Raleigh Church The Norlina Baptist Church GA's attended a retreat at the First Baptist Church in Raleigh on Saturday. April 28 Hiere were five girls and two leaders who attended. In attendance at the retreat were 650 GA's and their leaders The girls were divided into different countries Mrs. Moore Hosts Meeting The Lola Sue Mission Action Group met with Mrs. D. R. Moore on Monday, April 28, with some 10 members present. Mrs. Gracie Floyd, director, opened the meeting with a devotion and meditation time, followed with prayer. During the business meeting, Mrs. Floyd thanked the ladies for their cooperation and assistance in the special project for April. Plans were made to attend the Prayer Retreat at Warren Plains Baptist Church. The revival will be held May 18, at the Norlina Baptist Church and the members were asked to invite many friends. Mrs. Emily Bobbitt presented the program which was entitled "Community Resources." Mrs. R. H. Fuller led the prayer for missionaries having birthdays on that day and dismissed the business session. Mrs. Moore, hostess, served refreshments. and states and according to their state or country rotated to different area centers such as follows: Crafts. Slide Presentation. Foreign missionary from Africa, Lecture by Home Missionary, Music session, in which the girls learned new songs. Drama, each girl acted out certain situations. Recreation, and Mission Adventure session in which girls talked about different ways to move up in the GA's. The retreat began at 10.30 a. m and was dismissed at 3 p. m. It was a very enjoyable and knowledgeable experience for all who attended. WMU Attend Prayer Retreat There were some 10 members of the Norlina Baptist WMU who attended the prayer retreat at the Warren Plains Baptist Church on Monday night, April 28. The guest speaker was Mrs. Mary C. Robertson, who spoke on the book "The Dynamic Woman I Am: Decision Making with God After Mrs. Robertson's talk had concluded, groups were set up for prayer sessions. At the conclusion of these groups, refreshments were served. The prayer retreat was a very enlightening and heartwarming experience for all who attended. Mrs. Robertson Is Given Life Membership Mrs L. O. Robertson. Jr.. a member of the Norlina Woman's Club, was presented with an honorary life membership in the North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs Inc (NCFWC) during the organization's recent 78th annual convention held in Asheville Seven Junior Women's Clubs in District 14 gave the honorary membership to Mrs. Robertson She was presented red roses, a framed certificate and a gold memhe»ship pin Making the presentation was Mrs. Frank C Moffett of Charlotte. NCFWC president Mrs. Robertson also won a silver bowl for being the first of 16 district presidents to complete all reports for the year The Norlina Woman's Club received a runner-up certificate for the best work done at the Murdoch Center in Butner. Mrs. Thomas Pete Fleming was chairman of tellers for the convention and Mrs. Jimmy Brame served as convention page Both are members of the Norlina Junior Woman's Club. Mrs. Robertson was installed as District 14 president for 1980-82, the same position she held for 1978-80 Mrs. Fleming was installed as district junior director for 198082. Miss Marilyn Van Derbur. a former Miss America, gave the keynote address at the convention which was attended by 492 clubwomen Entertainment was by the Statesville Singers, the Pisgah View Ranch Cloggers and the Stoney Creek Boys from Candler District night presentation was "A Hee Haw Happening" Mrs. Robertson gave her district's reports from the "Barber Shop Scene." Miss King Is Guest Speaker To Local Club Miss Cynthia King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. "Red" King, was guest speaker at the Norlina Woman's Club last Thursday. Cynthia is a member of Circle Two Has Meeting Circle Two of the Norlina United Methodist Women met Monday night in the home of Mrs. J. B. Lewis. Mrs. Graham Grissom offered devotions and presented a Methodist Women's skit for the program. Mrs. Jim Hundley presided and conducted the business session. There were 10 members and one visitor present. Plans were made for the circle picnic to be held in June at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Thaxton. Members were reminded of the fellowship supper to be held May 8 and of the General Meeting on May 26, both at the church. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. the Wise-Paschall 4-H Club and recently was judged state winner in "Exploiing the World of Plants and Soils." She will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago Cynthia was introduced to the group by Mrs. William Brauer, Conservation chairman, and the program was based on conservation of your youth. Through talks, a skit, and discussion Cynthia presented a program that was thought provoking, lively and- unique. Mrs. Eleanor Hayes led the devotional on Spring. During the business session plans were made for the District Summer Workshop to be held in Norlina on July 15. During the social hour the hostesses, Mrs. Pattie Brauer, Mrs. Alta Davis and Mrs. Lillian Kilian, served a sweet course and coffee to members and guests. Softball Team To Play The Blue Mud Swamp Stompers, a church softball team sponsored by Zion United Methodist Church, will return to Faulkner Field in Henderson Saturday night to play their first game of 1960. Last year Blue Mud won both the league title and tournament title, posting a league record of 13-1 and an over-all mark of 25-5. Head Coach Mark Faulkner said this week that he expects an exciting and worthwhile season. Among the returning players expected to provide the hitting power this year are Teddy Felts, Robby and Danny Harmon, Frank Fleming, Kenny Keeter, Keith Bolton, William Bender, Ovid and Robert Clayton and Chuck Medlin. New additions to the team are Tommy Fleming, Sidney Patterson, Jeff Devine, Ronald Parrish, Pete Norwood and Rodney Carroll. Tickets are now being sold by players to raise funds with which to buy uniforms and equipment.
