The wedding and reception were held in Lewes, Delaware. : Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson visited their daughter and family, Pam, John and Heather Allen, in Carolina Beach during the Azalea Festival. While there, they toured the gardens and attended the festival parade. John and Pam were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ward, Jr., at a reception on Thursday atternoon at the Governor Dudley Mansion to honor the officers of this year's festival. Ward is president of the festival. Later that evening, they attended the Four Tops concert, and they also fttended a luncheon on Friday at Airlie Gardens and a celebrity luncheon at the Hilton Inn on Saturday following the parade. Mrs. Mildred Wilson, Mrs. Lucille Satterwhite and Norwood Adams visited Mack Adams at Veterans Hospital in Durham last week. King Addresses Norlina Ruritans The Norlina Ruritan Club held its regular meeting recently at the Woman's Club in Norlina and had a delicious barbecue supper. The meeting was called to order by President Daniel. After a short business session and introduction of guests, Steve Daniel introduced Russell King, agricultural agent for Warren County. King chose as his subject the dangers of the various poisons that we come into contact witn, some more dangerous than others, as indicated by the labels. It was emphasized that labels and directions should be read carefully and followed fully to prevent serious injury or even death. It was suggested that if you or any member of your family has received an accidental dose of poison, contact the poison hotline number at Duke University, as they can give immediate instructions on what to do. Most injuries are to children, and it was recommended that care be used in the handling of any chemicals. Literature, Music Club Has Meeting The Norlina Literature and Music Club met recently with Mrs. Boyd Mayfield with Mrs. Lillian Kilian and Mrs. M. V. Taylor as co-hostesses for their April meeting. Mrs. Mayfield opened the meeting. Mrs. Kilian gave the devotions and led in prayer. Business was discussed. Mrs. Bessie Hicks gave an interesting program on literature and poetry which was enjoyed by all. The meeting was closed with the club collect. The hostesses served punch, cake, nuts, mints, cheese patties and other party dainties to the 12 members present. The next meeting will be a dutch luncheon on May 13. Say Cheese From the researchers who brought you cottonseed hamburgers, now comes a new protein ingredient — a cheese-like food made from soybeans and skim milk. As nutritious as cheese and less expensive tc produce, the substitute is being developed by Food Protein Research and Development Centei scientists. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Conrad Petrea of Charloae nounce the engagement of their daughter, Noel Marie, of Raleigh to William Lee Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Carl Taylor of Gumberry. Taylor is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Watson of Norlina. The wedding is planned for June 19 at Advent Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Superior Court Term Is Held Judge Melzer A. Morgan, Jr. presided over Warren County Superior Court the week of April 5, disposing of the following cases: Ronald T. Robertson, guilty of damage to personal property, ordered to pay a fine of 5150 and court costs, to be paid personally by the defendant on or before September 1, 1982. James Bullock, charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intention to inflict serious irjury, continue for the term. Sandy Alston, Jr., guilty of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, ordered confined in N. C. Department of Correction for a minimum and maximum period of 24 months, suspended for five years, supervised probation for three years, and the defendant is not to go on the premises of Charles Perry during the period of suspension or molest or assault Charles Perry during that period, that he turn in his 12-gauee shotgun and not possess any firearm or other dangerous weapon during the period of suspension, and pay $240 reimbursement to the state for attomev fees. and pay a fine of $250 and cost of court and not be convicted of any criminal offense during the period of suspension. Monday, and the balance of sentence suspended for three years and defendant placed on probation for three years, ordered to pay a fine of $250 and costs to include jail fees, and that defendant not be convicted of DUI during the period of suspension or of operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .10 or more or of careless and reckless driving. Cobb of Richmond, Va. to Richard John Ahlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul John Ahlin of Richmond took place April 17 in Grove Avenue Baptist Randy Hodge, guilty of assault of a custodial officer, judgment combined with previous judgment. Michael Marvin Solomon, guilty to misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny, ordered confined N. C. Department of Correction facility for minimum and maximum period of 24 months, suspended for three years with probation for two years or until monetary portion of judgment is paid. Ordered to pay $50 restitution to Capps Logging, and restitution to the state for attorney fees in amount of $400, and to pay the costs of court. Ordered to seek gainful employment, and during the period of suspension not to possess any firearm or other dangerous weapon. Probation officer ordered to take defendant to visit local unit of N. C. Department of Correction and defendant ordered to do 50 hours of community service for public school or other charitable or governmental organization within 24 months, and pay probation supervision fee. (Continued on page 6) Drewry Firemen Ask For Norlina's Help The Norlina Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call for assistance with a woods fire from the Drewry Fire Department at 1:30 p m on April 13 Approximately 10 acres were burned over near Bullocksville Park Norlina responded with eight men and three trucks, and Ridge way Volunteer Fire Department and Vance Countv Forestry Service assisted in extinguishing the fire. On April 15, the department responded to a grass fire at the residence of John Thompson of Warren Plains Road. Approximately one acre was burned over. The fire is Bobbitt Receives Army Decoration Sgt. Gordon E. Bobbitt, son of Jennie M. Bobbitt of Littleton, has been decorated with the U. S. Army Commendation Medal at Fort Hood. Texas The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Army. Bobbitt is a radioteletype operator with the 6th Cavalry Brigade. Bobbitt is a 1976 graduate of North West High School believed to have started when the lawn mower struck an object Six men and two trucks responded to the fire, assisted by the Warrenton Rural Fire Department The Norlina Department and the Hawtree Fire Department responded to a trailer fire at the residence of Richard Thompson on U. S. 1 North of Norlina. The cause of the fire was not listed, however about $6,000 in damage was done to the trailer and contents Eleven men and three trucks responded to the call.
