S. Census worked in other counties in the state, according to Information recently released by the U. S. Census Bureau. The report showed 2,935 residents working in Warren County, 2,245 residing in Warren County but working outside the county, and 176 working out of the state. Three hundred and ninety-seven residents (ttdnt report their place of work. The census did not gather information on where residents employed outside the county worked. However, the census did show that 385 workers traveled more than 60 minutes to work, 295 traveled 45 to 59 minutes, 1,319 traveled 30 to 44 minutes, and 1,284 traveled 20 to 29 minutes. The remaining 2,409 traveled fewer than 19 minutes. Almost 62 percent of that work force, or 3,274 workers, drove to work alone in car, truck or van. Two thousand and eight carpooled, 49 took public transportation, and 234 walked. Fortythree used other means of transportation and 141 indicated that they worked at home. Of the 850 housing units reported in the census as having no vehicle available, 75 percent were black. Approximately 22 percent were white, and the remainder were other minorities. Federal offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, but will be open on Monday, Dec. 27. As of press time they had not received notification of the New Year holiday schedule. Banks and savings institutions will be closed Monday, Dec. 27, and Monday, Jan. S. Warren County public school students will enjoy ® long holiday from today (Wednesday) until January 3. Postal Service will not deliver mail on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Also, mail will not be picked up from outside collection boxes after 3 p. m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The Warren County Memorial Library will observe Christmas holidays December 33 through December 26. The Norlina Public Library closed yesterday and will not reopen until January 3. HealthCo at Soul City will be dosed Christmas Eve; Monday, Dec. 27; and New Year's Eve. The staff requests that patients needing prescriptions refilled faring them in before Christmas Eve. David Gardner, chairman of the Merchants Committee for the Warren County Chamber of Commerce, said that there is no set policy for store and business in the area. He said that some merchants will be closed Christmas Day, closed New Year's Day and closed Monday, Jan. 3, following the lead of banks and savings institutions. However, be stressed that some will be open on New Year's Day, and open on Jan. 3. A survey of local supermarkets and other chain stores found that most plan to be closed Christmas Day, but open on New Year's Day. The Warren Record office will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 23, Friday, Dec. 24; and Friday, Dec. 31. New Practice Announced Warren County Tax Forms Will Be Wailed This Time Following the trend of a great majority of the counties of North Carolina, Warren County's Tax Supervisor's Office will ma il IMS tax forms to individual taxpayers, Mrs. Janice Haynes, tax supervisor, announced this week. At on* time, Mrs. Haynes tax listers had offices in each of the 12 townships of the county, where tax listers assisted the taxpayers with the filling out of their tax listing forms each January, but with better roads and other means of communication and with a better educated dtixenry, the number of tax listing places has been gradually decreasing until this year there were only four in the entire county. Next year there will be only one central office in Warrenton. Mrs. Haynes said yea terday that she anticipates few taxpayers having any trouble listing their own taxes, but if they should have any trouble the Warrenton supervisor's office will be glad to furnish such assistance as may be necessary. She said she believes a telephone call to the Warrenton office will usually clear up any question; otherwise the taxpayers may (Continued on page 4B) Accident At Norlina Claims Woman's Life A head-on rolHslon just outride the city limits of Norlina Saturday was fatal to an 82-year-old Noriina woman. According to reports from ttie State Highway Patrol, Ida Brauer Hecht of Rt . 2, Norlina sustained multiple injuries when her car collided with a vehicle driven by Sandy Hoagland, 28, of Chariotte. Mr*. Hecht died rttortly after arrival at Warren General Hospit&l. was treated in the emergency roan at Warren General Hospital and then transferred to Duke Medical Center where, acceding to information from the Highway Patrol, he was treated for a fractured Jaw. Mrs. Hecht was traveling south on U. S. 1 about 400 feet south of the Nariba city limits when her car creased the center line and struck Hoagjanri's auto, according to Trooper A. M. Bennett.
