Karen celebrated her sixth birthday. Dinner guests of Mrs. Gladys B. King on Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Nipper, Michael and Steven, Mrs. Janet Ayscue of Raleigh and Mrs. Lillian Wemyss erf Warrenton. John Garrett, III of Reidsville spent several days last week visiting John Garrett. Richard Blankenship and Dr. William Peete of Durham, Byron Peete Matthews of Raleigh, Mrs. Jane Matthews and Mrs. Nancy Blankenship at tended the funeral ser vices for Catherine Somerville Brown on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. W. F. Farmer has returned from a visit at Sugar Mountain with her sister, Mrs. Odell Robertson, of Greenville, S. C. and other relatives. Guests of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Holt this week are Mrs. Burgess Urqu hart and children of Lewis ton, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Holt of Pensa cola, Fla., Dr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Holt and son of Greenville, Miss Gwynn Holt of Florida and Mrs. Lee Holt of Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. J. _A. Tucker spent last week at Emerald Isle. Luncheon guests of the Clyde Rodwells on Tuesday were Mrs. Ann Huntley of Reston, Va. and daughters, Mrs. Andy Ponton of Corolla and Mrs. William Hughes of Chapel Hill. Mrs. Huntley will return for a weekend visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rodwell. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davis, Ward and Josh of Raleigh spent the weekend here. Mrs. Eddie Echols and sons of Patterson, Ga. are spending some time at their Warrenton home. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Banzet, Helen, and Kin sey of Stoneville, were here for the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Banzet Mrs. Nancy Aycock Loy of Nags Head was the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J. E. Cheves on Thursday night. Her mother, Mrs. George Aycock, returned to Nags Head with her on Friday after a two-week visit with Mrs. Cheves. Luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Banzet on Thursday were their cousins, Mrs. Fen ton Coulbourn and Mrs. Andrew Vinson of Cary. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Maxwell of Hill Top Lakes, Tex. were guests of the Rev. and Mrs. Gary Parker on Friday night. The Maxwells were members of the church the Rev. Officiating the cere mony was the Rev. Herbert Eplee, Jr. of Raleigh.. The bride, the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ketner of Hickory, is a 1976 graduate of Hickory High School and a 1980 graduate of Meredith College. She is employed by the State of North Carolina as a disability determina tion specialist. Ay cock, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claiborne Aycock of Warrenton, is a 1974 graduate of John Graham High School and a 1979 graduate of East Carolina Univer sity in Greenville. He is now employed by Miller Marketing, Inc. in Ral eigh. The bride's honor attendant was her sis ter, Mrs. Fuad Rihani, of Hickory. Brides maids were Miss Flor ence Hassell and Mrs. Graham Jordan of Raleigh; Miss Jane Aycock, sister of the groom, of Warrenton; weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Miles. Guests of the Sam Padgetts last week were Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Raley of Hollywood, Md. and Mrs. Sallie E. Miller of Currituck. On Thurs day, they and the Padgetts left for Greer, S. C. where they attend ed the wedding of their nephew, George Cran dall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Crandall of Currituck. The groom's father served as his best man. His groomsmen were Eddie King and Wayne Morris, both of Ral eigh; Ben Aycock, brother of the groom of Richmond, Va.; and Jack C. Ketner, Jr., brother of the bride, of Greensboro. The ring bearer was Master Andrew Ketner, nephew of the bride of Greensboro. The bride wore her sister's gown of peau de soie with seed pearls and Alencon lace. The cathedral train of matching peau de soie was highlighted by her cousin's cathedral length mantilla of Alen con lace and seed pearls falling from a Juliet cap. Reception After the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a luncheon buf fet at the Velvet Cloak Inn. The couple left after the reception for their wedding trip to Hilton Head, S. C. They will reside in Raleigh. Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Clai borne Aycock entertain ed the wedding party at an after-rehearsal din ner at the Plantation Inn in Raleigh Friday. Births Mr. and Mrs. George Bobbitt announce the birth of their son, Jonathan Edward, on July 21 at Maria Par ham Hospital in Hen derson. The infant weighed 8 pounds and 7 ounces. Mrs. Bobbitt is the former Miss Lisa Paul ofWarrenton. The paternal grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bobbitt of Norlina and the matern al grandmother is Mrs. Shirley H. Paul of Warrenton. The mater nal great-grandmother is Mrs. Lois Loyd House also of Warrenton. Mrs. Bobbitt also has a daughter. Sterling Sipe, ageS. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Harmon of Battleboro announce the birth of a daughter, Sarah Ragan, on July 17. Bin. Harmon is the former Lisa Coleman of 4 Beth Ann Summey Weds William Curtis Cartrette, Jr. Beth Ann Summey and William Curtis Car trette, Jr. were united in marriage Saturday at 4 p. m. at Wesley Me morial United Methodist Church in Warrenton. The bride is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. James Lester Summey of Warrenton, natives of Gastonia, and the groom is the son of William-Curtis Cart rette, Sr., of Tabor City. The father of the bride and the Rev. Ragsdale Allsbrook of Aynor, S. C. officiated at the ceremony. For the occasion, the church was decorated with green ferns on both sides of the altar and an arrangement of pink roses on the altar. Altar candles graced the church and the windows held candles with hurricane lamps and ivy. A program of nuptial music was presented by Charlie Currin of Chapel Hill, organist, Mrs. Deborah Daniel Russ of Greenville, flutist, and Mrs. Faye A. Daniel of Tabor City, vocalist. Given in marriage by her mother and father, the bride wore a gown of white silk organza over taffeta with a fitted em pire bodice and a por trait neckline. It was overlaid with re embroidered Alencon lace accented with seed pearls. Silk Venice lace defined the waistline. The French pouf sleeves had motifs of Alencon lace and were edged with Brussels lace. A full skirt was bordered at the hemline with scalloped Brussels lace and extended into a chapel train. The gown was complemented by a tiered, waltz-length veil with silk embroidery designs. It fell from a chapel cap of Brussels lace and pearls. Susan Lavonne Sum MRS. WILLIAM CURTIS CARTRETTE, JR. mey and Krista Lynn Summey, sisters of the bride of Warrenton, were maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Colleen Beattie, of Woodland Park, Col., cousin of the bride; Kesha Beattie of Clover, S. C., cousin of the bride; Phyllis Cart refte of Tabor City, sister of the groom; Tricia Daniel of Tab«r City, and Avajan Miller of Golston. Andreau Hill and Natasha Hill of Tabor City, nieces of the groom, were flower girls. Michael Summey and David Summey, cousins of the bride, were ring bearers. The groom's father served as best man, and ushers were Chip Allman, Steve Carter, Kendall Cartrette, cousin of the groom, Kim Clemons, Markyl Prince and Mark Stocks, all of Tabor City, and Kerry Smith of Smithfield. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Anne Harris of Warrenton. After a wedding trip to Williamsburg, Va., the couple will reside at Buies Creek where they attend Campbell University. Reception Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a recep tion in their home and garden. Friends and relatives of the bride and groom, and members of Wesley United Methodist Church assisted with the reception. Rehearsal Party The women of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church hosted a rehearsal party in the church fellowship hall Friday night. Courtesies On April 21, a surprise kitchen shower was given for the bride-elect by suitemates of Strick land Dorm at Campbell University. Mrs. Paul Beattie, Mrs. Neal Beattie, Mrs. Erskine Summey, and Mrs. John Babbington hosted a linen-lingerie shower for the bride elect on May 28 at East Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Gastonia. On June 25, the fellow ship hall of Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Tabor City was the site of a shower given by Mrs. Lorene Prince, Mrs. Fannie Watts, Mrs. Diane Watts, Mrs. Gwen Hill and Miss Phyllis Cartrette. A kitchen shower for the bride-elect was given by Mrs. Jack Harris and Miss Jen nifer Harris at their home in Warrenton on July 3. Miss Rebecca Harris and Miss Catherine Harris assisted in serving refreshments. On July 23, in the fellowship hall of Wesley Memorial Unit ed Methodist Church a brunch was held in honor of the bride and groom. Hosts were the couple's parents and their great-aunts and great-uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Helms of Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Norton of Raleigh and the Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Price of Irwin, Penn. Assisting in serving and enter taining were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Allred of Richmond, Va., Mr. and Mrs. William McLamb of Raleigh, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beattie of Clover, S. C. and Mr. and Mrs. Neal Beattie of Rock Hill, S. C. Girl: "Do you know why I won't marry you?" Boy: "I can't think." Girl: "You guessed it."
