Jeff Egerton and Donna and Derick God win of Raleigh visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eger ton on Saturday after noon. Horace Hedgepeth of Jacksonville, Fla. visited his mother, Mrs. W.R. Hedgepeth, over the weekend. Douglas Taylor is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hinson in Jacksonville. Carl White of Hender son visited his mother, Mrs. G.E. White, on Sunday. Mrs. Clayton Taylor of Norlina and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor of Hen derson attended the Gregory family reunion in Newton Grove on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Donald S. Wimbrow spent several days last week at Myrtle Beach, S.C. They had as their guests, Tamara Max bauer of Ahoskie and Geraldina Millet of Paris, France. Mrs. Tommy Frazier and Brooke and Miss Gwen Allen of Norlina and Mrs. Jerry Lyons and son, Scottie, of Elizabethton, Tenn., spent Sunday at Williamsburg, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse O'Conn of Richmond, Va., spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Peete Rose. Miss Allison Campbell of Burlington spent the past week with Mrs. G.E. White. Visiting Mrs. Sudie Coleman on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Price and son, Mark Carde, of Kinston, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ayscue of Epsom and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Coleman. Nancy and Richard Ivey, daughter, Faith and son, Richard, Jr., of Shelby were recent guests of Mrs. Ann P. Norvell. Joining them for a brief visit were Mr. and Mrs. John T. Perkinson of Oxford. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiggins and Mrs. Nita Fuller were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gupton of Alexandria, Va. Mr. and Mrs.Julius P. Brauer, Samuel ar.d Eric of Washington spent the weekend with Mrs. Paul Brauer. Mrs. Joseph Delbridge visited her sister-in-law, Mrs. Luther Perkinson, Sun day and attended wor ship services in Jerusalem United Methodist Church near Paschall Sunday. She also visited her brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Perkin son, near Paschall and Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds Perkinson in Norlina. Church Circle Has Gathering The Annie Armstrong Circle of the Norlina Baptist Church met July 25 at the home of Mrs. Sarah Parham in Lit tleton. Mrs. Beatrice Setzer called the meeting to order and read a devotional from Hebrews 13:2. Prayer was led by Mrs. Dot Bobbitt. Mrs. Setzer read a poem "No Prayer Goes Unheard." The minutes were read and a collection was taken. A report was heard from the Sick and Cheer Committee and plans were made to remem ber the sick in the com munity. Mrs. Setzer presented a program "Woman to Woman" which per tained to women in the prison system. Mrs. Mary Lee Pridgen closed the meeting with prayer. Punch and other party dainties were served to the eight members present. The circle will have their family picnic August 29 at 7 p.m. Senior Social Clubs Have Drewry Meet By SADIE YANCEY , The Norlina Senior Social Club held its July meeting with the Drewry group at 2 p. m. in the Drewry Fire house with 46 members present. Mrs. Hazel Norwood, president, presided. Mrs. Alma Matthews and Mrs. Ruby Kimball gave a most inspiring devotion and led the group in singing songs for the program. Birth days for the month were recognized, with one member being over 90 years old. Mrs. Zora King read the minutes of the last meeting and Mrs. Anna Fuller gave the treasur er's report. Mrs. Tem pie Rose received the door prize. A suggestion was made that the group tour Gatlinburg this fall. The next meeting will be the annual picnic on Lake Gaston on the lawn of "Whispering Pines," home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Twitty. A picnic supper will be served at 5 p. m. Everyone is requested to bring a drink, covered dish, and a lawn chair. Anyone wanting to fish should bring fishing equip ment. Bridge Club Gathers The Drewry Bridge Club met at the home of Mrs. Ellis E Fleming Tuesday night. Players were: Mrs. Joe D. Mabry, Mrs. C. B. Curtis, Jr., Mrs. Bill Ellington. Mrs. Frank Edwards, Mrs. W. H. Fletcher, Mrs. Sydney Fleming, Mrs. Roger K. Fleming, and Mrs. Ellis E. Fleming. High score went to Mrs. Joe D. Mabry, and second high score went to Mrs. Frank Ed wards. Bingo went to Mrs. Roger K. Fleming. Surprise hand went to Mrs. C. B. Curtis, Jr. After several progres sions of play, a delicious congealed salad and iced drink were served to the guests. Miss Frazier Chosen Susan Frazier of Nor lina is one of 97 selected student leaders who will assist the incoming freshman class of Ap palachian State Univer sity in making the tran sition from high school to college. Each of the student leaders will host a group of 20 new students through a three-day orientation program which begins Saturday, August 20, on the ASU campus. Susan, a graduate of Norlina High School, was selected to par ticipate in the orien tation program by a team of five student captains who have been working since last February to organize the schedule, which in cludes faculty presenta tions on study skills, time management, and note-taking and small group sessions to be conducted by the student leaders. Birthday Party Is Given Baker Norwood Baker celebrated his eighth birthday with a picnic lunch and, later, a cake and ice cream party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Dishmon and Early Dishmon in LaCrosse, Va., on Sun day. (Staff Photo) Norlina Class Of 1955 Has Reunion The 1955 graduating class of Norlina High School held its 28th class reunion on Saturday at the Norlina Woman's Club. Eighteen of the 31 class members were present. Carlton Duke, presi dent of the class was the emcee. After welcoming everyone, Carlton read letters from Shirley Bolton Gentry, Phyllis Norvell Guappone, Faye Draffin Noneman and James Pearce, who were unable to attend. Gifts were given to Bob Traylor for having the youngest child, to Ellen Fuller Gupton for traveling the farthest, to Doris Perkinson Cole man for having the oldest child, to Iris Meador Frazier for having the most children, and to Elaine Brame Rivers for having the most grand children. After a bountiful meal and much reminiscing, the class decided they would have a 30th reunion in 1985. Members attending were Ivey Bolton and wife Bonnie from Louis burg; Carlton Duke from Fredericksburg, Va.; Ellen Fuller Gup ton and husband Charles from Alexandria, Va.; Nancy Davis Alexander and husband Dan from Virginia Beach, Va.; Alice Myrick Tucker and husband Linwood from Prince George, Va.; Annice Perkinson Davis and husband, Joe from Yanceyville; and Diane Rowland Watkins of Greensboro and her guest, Clint Hege.
