Assisting Gardner will be pianists Mary Lou Young and Leslie Paynter. a native 01 t,aen ana a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and Catholic Uni versity, Gardner was the first brass player to be a N. C. visiting artist. Before coming to Vance-Granville Com munity College, he was visiting artist at Mar tin and Wayne Commun ity Colleges. He also has been a member of the U. S. Army Band (Pershing's Own) and was a visiting artist-in residence at Western Carolina University as a member of the Pied mont Brass Quintet. He records for Crystal Records and is a clinician for the Bach trumpet division of the Selmer Company. A native of South Carolina, Mary Lou Young is a graduate of Furman University, where she studied piano with Wendell Keeney and organ with W. Lind sey Smith. She is currently organist and associate minister of music at the First Baptist Church in Hen derson. Pianist Leslie fayn ter is an Oxford native and studied locally with Laura Garlick. She graduated from the University of N. C. at Greensboro, studying piano with Robert Dar nell, and currently teaches piano privately in Oxford.
