Jimmie Roberts is recuperating from surgery at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. His wife is with him. UDC Chapter Has Gathering The Warren County United Daughters of the Confederacy. Chapter 939, met Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the home of Mrs. George W. Franklin. There were nine members present. The meeting was call ed to order by the presi dent, Mrs. Franklin, and proceeded with the ritual, pledge and flag salutes of the UDC. Mrs. Roger Norwood, chaplain, offered the prayer. The treasurer's report was given and old and new business was discussed. Mrs. Franklin atten ded the 87th annual UDC Convention in I,umber ton on Oct. 7 and 8 and reported the informa tion she obtained while there. Mrs. Clayton Taylor gave a program about the two historical Navy warships, "The Merri mack vs. the Monitor." The meeting was ad journed with the mem bers singing 'Dixie." The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Tim Thompson, served pie, Russian tea and mints. Birth Announced Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Burton announce the birth of a son, William Hudson, on Oct. 14 in Winston-Salem. DOAK WILKIN'S Miss Weatherly Weds In Elizabeth City Miss Dorothy Dan dridgo Weatherly and Doak Wilkins were united in marriage Oc tober 9 at four o'clock in the afternoon at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City. The Rev. Charles Walton officiated. The bride is the daughter of Alice Jones Weatherly and W. H. Weatherly, . Ill of Elizabeth City. She is. the granddaughter of Mrs. Alpheus Jones of Warrenton. The grooin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Shelbert F. Wilkins of Weeks ville. Wedding music was provided by Dr. and Mrs. Wesley Gragson on the organ and trumpet. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a dress of ivory satin which she designed herself to go with her veil, a family heirloom. The chapel length veil of rosepoint Venetian lace was bought in Europe in 1930 by Mrs. Alpheus Jones, the bride's grand mother, and was also worn by the bride's mother at her wedding. Miss Daphne Wilkins, sister of the groom, was the maid of honor. Miss Debbie Freeman of Elizabeth City was Philathea Class Members Meet The V. l„. Pendleton Philathea Class of the Warrenton Baptist Church met in the home of Mary Frances Rod well on Oct. 11 at 8 p. m. with Mrs. Lillian Wemvss serving as joint hostess. Mrs. Jack Groves, president, presided. The devotional based on the 19th chapter of Luke, verses 11-26, was given by Mrs. E. R. Wood. The secretary report ed 10 members with 100 percent attendance at Sunday School during the month. The personal service committee gave a good report. Arrangements for the Christmas dinner meeting were discussed. Mrs. S. 0. Potter had an interesting program involving the members in two contests, one to get the verses in the 13th Chapter of First Corin thians in their proper order in the chapter, and the other to give the names of familiar hymns after hearing the words only. Mrs. J. Rodney Foreman served as mistress of ceremonies for the wedding. Palmer Family Reunion Held The Palmer family held their 10th reunion this past Saturday and Sunday. The activities opened with family members meeting at the family cemetery in Sixpound Township for clean-up and restora tion work Following this, a family picnic was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J D. Palmer. That evening, the group met at Norlina Woman's Club for a business Birthday Party Honors Gatling Family members gathered on Oct. 12 to celebrate the 87th birth day of J. Hartwell "Pop" Catling. Swedish pancakes were served in honor of the occasion. The recipe for the delicacy has been handed down for many generations from the family of the late Klsa Nilson Catling. Sandra Wood Norwood did the cooking using her grandmother's pan cake pan which has been used only for pancake cooking for over 50 years. In attendance were Catling's daughter, Juanita Wood, and her husband. A. A.
