Using Insulation
If you're one of the
holdouts in getting your
home well insulated, the
heat loss is costing you
dearly in higher energy
costs. When you do
decide to insulate, take
certain personal safety
precautions and install
the insulation correctly.

example, when you're
working in the attic,
provide good lighting,
lay boards or plywood
sheets over the joists or
trusses to form a walk
way and working sur
face, and look out for
any roofing nails that
might be poking through
roof sheathing.
If you're installing in
sulation during warm
weather, try to do it in
the coolest part of the
day. Always wear
gloves and a breathing
mask.
Keep in mind that
vapor barriers should
always be placed next to
the living area. If you're
adding new insulation
over old, and the new in
sulation has a foil or
paper vapor barrier,
slash the foil or paper at
frequent intervals. This
helps prevent moisture
from being locked in.
Place ceiling in
sulation over the top of
the outside walls. Use a
baffle to insure air
space between the in
sulation and the under
side of the roof deck.

Bran Muffins
1 cup boiling water
3 cups bran cereal
Vi cup (1 stick) butter
V\ cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
2 Vi cups all-purpose flour
2 W tsp. baking soda
1 lA tsp. salt
Combine boiling water and
1 cup bran cereal; let stand,
uncovered, S min. Cream
butter and sugar in a large
mixing bowl until light and
fluffy. Beat in eggs. Stir in
bran-water mixture and but
termilk. Combine dry ingre
dients. Gradually add to bat
ter. Stir in remaining 2 cups
bran cereal. Store batter in
covered container in re
frigerator up to 1 month. To
bake, fill buttered muffin
cups y> full. Bake in preheat
ed 400*F. oven 20 to 22 min.
Serve warm with butter. Bake
only a* many as needed; keep
remaining batter refrigera
ted.
