Gathering Monday
The Lola Sue Mission
Action Group met at 10
a. m. Monday at the
fellowship hall of the
Norlina Baptist Church.
The meeting was
opened by Mrs. Sadie
Mustian, director, with
scripture from John's
Gospel, Chapter 5.
Mrs. Lottie Nance
became a member of
this group as it was best
for her to attend a day
time circle.
During the business, a
report was presented on
the needs of the home in
Henderson. All kinds of
household items are
needed. The group took
this as a mission action
project for October.
A good report was
given by Miss Bertha
Bishop, the "Sick and
Cheer" chairman.

Baptist Church met at
the home of Mrs. M. V.
Taylor, Monday, Oct. 24,
with five members
present.
Mrs. Jeanette
Shearin, vice chirman,
gave the devotions from
Romans 10. Mrs. Taylor
offered prayer.
The program, pre
sented by Mrs. Shearin,
assisted by Mrs. W. 0.
Reed, was from articles
titled "Family Missions
Night at Home," "Meet
the Third World
Woman," "Prayer
Alert," and "How Your
Child Learns."
Silent prayers were
offered for the men over
seas.
The hostess served
delicious refresh
ments and Mrs. Kate
Smiley invited the circle
to her home for the
November meeting.

Homemakers Club met
Thursday, Oct. 20, at the
home of Mrs. Lena
Holtzmann.
Mrs. Eleanor Hayes,
president, presided.
The meeting was
opened with the group
singing "Blest Be The
Tie That Binds."
The hostess gave the
devotions from Matthew
5. She recited a prayer,
"Blessed Are The Peace
Makers, For They Shall
Inherit the Earth."
Mrs. Holtzmann re
ported that the club won
a blue ribbon on its
county fair booth. She
also displayed the 12
ribbons the club has won
since 1961. She told the
theme of each booth and
gave a short history of
each.
Mrs. Frieda Holtz
mann displayed the
engraved silver tray she
received at the State
Council meeting on Oct.
13. She was one of the 11
"A & P Leadership
Award" winners.
The hostess was in
charge of the program
on crafts. She showed
how to make key rings
and tissue box covers
using plastic grits and
wool. These were very
attractive.
The meeting was
closed with the collect.
The hostess served
apple cobbler with
whipped topping,
potato chips and coffee.
Birth
Mr. and Mrs. Michael
Pullen of Greensboro
announce the birth of a
daughter, Nicole
Elizabeth, on Oct. 5 at
Wesley Long Hospital in
Greensboro.
The infant weighed 8
pounds, 8 ounces.
Mrs. Pullen is the
former Miss Janet Ma be
of Greensboro.
The paternal grand
parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Pullen of
Norlina.

Holtzmann Given
Promotion By

CHARLOTTE - Wil
liam C. Holtzmann, a
Warren County native,
and the first navigator
in the North Carolina
Air National Guard, has
been promoted to the
rank of colonel.
Holtzmann, Director
of Operations, NCANG
State headquarters,
joined the Air Guard in
June 1962, after com
pleting three years of
active duty in the Air
Force. Since entering
the military, he has
achieved the master
navigator rating with
more than 7,600 flying
hours, 7,000 coming in
the Air Guard.
To make these hours
even more impressive,
he has accomplished
this while flying in a
part-time status. Holtz
mann also continues
some duties of a
navigator flight
examiner.
In his civilian job, he
works as the Davidson
County extension
chairman of the N. C.
Agricultural Extension
Service. To help qualify
for his position, Holtz
mann completed a
bachelor's degree in
agronomy in 1956 and a
master's degree in adult
education in 1971.
Holtzmann, a native
of Norlina, now lives in
Lexington. He has
received many awards
while in the Air Guard.
Several of these awards
include the Air Force
Commendation Medal,
the North Carolina
Meritorious Service
Medal and the Vietnam
Service Medal.
He is married to the
former Marie Cobb of
Norlina. They have
three daughters Terri,
Tammie and Traci. He
is the son of John D. and
Lena Holtzmann of
Norlina.

The Rev. Frank
Koehler of Hopewell,
Va. officiated.
A special hymn,
"Gentle Jesus," was
sung by the choir and
the organist was Mrs.
Lynn Stone of Ridge
way.
There was a luncheon
at the home of the chil
dren's paternal grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Brauer for all
the family and many of
their friends following
the baptism.
Friends stopped by
during the afternoon
and evening hours.
Maternal grandpar
ents are Mr. and Mrs.
Dick Conner of Eaton's
Ferry.
For the occasion,
Goldie wore a special
baptism gown made 72
years ago by her great
grandmother, Mrs.
Johannah Brauer. The
gown has been worn by
each of Mrs. Brauer's
seven children and has
been mailed to many
states for the use of her
grandchildren and
great-grandchildren at
their baptisms.
Mrs. Brauer, 95,
resides at Pine Haven
Convalescent Center in
Henderson.
