Warren County, Area Deaths And Funerals JOHN EDWARD HOOKER Funeral services for John Edward Rooker, 67, of Norlina will be conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Verne Womack and the Rev. Gordon Allen with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Rooker, son of the late Henry Foote and Alice Edward Rooker, was a retired construc tion engineer. He died in Warren General Hospital Mon day after a brief illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Helen Hinton Rooker; two sons, Stewart Rooker of Man son and John Thomas Rooker of Burlington; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Ann Freeman of Gastonia; five brothers, W. H. Rooker of Monroe, R. M. Rooker of Durham, and J. T. Rooker, W. F. Rooker and C. R. Rooker, all of Norlina; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Johnson of Arizona, Mrs. Gladys R. Phillips of Southamp ton, Mass., Mrs. Annie Tilghman of Snow Hill and Mrs. Bessie R. Hicks of Norlina; and nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were G. T. Vaughan, Floyd Ed wards, Lawson Bur nette, Charles White, Rodgers Holtzman, James White, Owen Robertson, Jr., and William Ellington. JULIA HARRIS Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Adams Cox Harris, 27, of Boydton, Va. were conducted Monday at 2 p. m. in Jerusalem Methodist Church in Wise by the Rev. Wayne Carter and the Rev. LaVerne Womack. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton. Mrs. Harris died at her home Saturday. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McCoy Adams of Wise, Mrs. Harris was a native of Warren County. She was employed by Leggett Department Store in Warrenton for three years before transferring to the Leggett store in Chase City, Va. after moving to Boydton. She was a member of Jerusalem Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris is survived by her husband, Norfleet Harris of Boydton; a daughter, Miss Ashley Nicole Cox, of the home; two sisters, Miss Mitzi Adams of Warrenton and Miss Stacy Adams of Burlington, Iowa; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Adams and her maternal grand mother, Mrs. Romey : yles, both of Warren ton. Pallbearers were: Una Harris, Gerald Clark, Roy King, Allan Reid, Carl Neal and Hubert Adams. THOMAS SYKES Funeral services for Thomas Sykes, 66, of Roanoke Rapids were conducted Saturday at 2 p. m. at Simmons Grove Baptist church by the Rev. George Battle. Burial was in the Sykes family cemetery. Mr. Sykes died April 10 in Wake Medical Cen ter in Raleigh. Among the survivors is a sister, Mrs. Mary Hawkins of Littleton. THOMAS THROWER Funeral services for Thomas Thrower were conducted Sunday at 4 p. m. at Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Lit tleton by the Rev. David Hicks. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Thrower, the son of the late Edmond Thrower and Ellen Hedgepeth Thrower, was born March 15,1891 in Warren County. He died Thursday at Halifax Memorial Hospital. Mr. inrower joined Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and remained a mem ber until his death. He was married to the late Mrs. Iaa Stark Thrower and to this union seven children were born. Two preced ed him in death. He is survived by five sons, St Paul Thrower, William C. Thrower, Oscar S. Thrower, all of Washington, D. C., Vaden G. Thrower of Littleton, Lawrence Thrower of the U. S. Air Force; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grand children. His grandsons served as pallbearers. ARTHUR D. SOMERVILLE Funeral services for Arthur Delane Somer ville were conducted Sunday at 2 p. m. at Harris-Turner Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. W. H. Burgess. In terment was in Greater Lovely Hill Church cemetery. Mr. Somerville, the son of Walter A. and Helen Irene Somerville, was born July 9, 1943 in Warren County. He died April 9 at his home. He attended Warren County schools, and was a member of the Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his 1 Parents, Mr. Somerville I is survived by a sister, ! Michelle Somerville of the home; and two brothers, Charles Leon Somerville of Warren ton and Harold Gerard Somerville of i Ridgeway. LAWRENCE BURTON Funeral services for Lawrence Burton, 32, of Manninc, S. C. were conducted Thursday at 3 p. m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Macon by the Rev. Bob bie Parker. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Burton, a native of Warren County, died Saturday at University Hospital in Charleston, S.C. He was the son of Lorraine Burton and the late Willie Burton of Warren County. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Eva Burton; a son, Lawrence McCoy Burton, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Tania Renee Burton and Tawanda Beth Burton, both of the home; and four sisters, Jean Bur ton of Passaic, N. J., and Linda Faye Burton, Mildred Burton and Brenda Burton, all of Brooklyn, N. Y. LJLLIEC. ABBOTT Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Currin "Ecie" Abbott, 61 will be conducted at 11 a. m. Thursday in the chapel of Flowers Funeral Home in Henderson by the Rev. Ronald Vaugh an. Interment will be in New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Abbott died Tuesday morning at her home in Henderson. A native of Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Willie L. and Annie Jackson Currin. She was a member of Carey Bap tist Church. Surviving are her husband, Philip Abbott of the home; two daugh ters, Mrs. Kay Bissette of Raleigh and Miss Cindy Abbott of the home; a son, Philip Ray Abbott of Ft. Lauder dale, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Terrell of Louisburg and Mrs. Mary Sprain of Henderson; three brothers, Willie J. Currin, Clements Currin and John Y. Currin, all of Henderson; and one grandson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wed nesday (today) from 7:30 to9p. m. She was a former resident of Manson. She is survived by her husband, Carson Bullock; two daughters, Deborah Bullock and Linda B. Thompson, both of St Albans; five sisters, Mrs. Lou B. Manning of Manson, Mrs. Clementine Hill of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Amanda Durham and Mrs. Angle Pough, both of Brooklyn, N. Y., and Mrs. Mary Talley of Norllna; a brother, Ed ward B. He died April 7 at Univer sity Medical Center in Charleston, S. C. He professed Christ many years ago and joined New Bethel Church where he remained a member as long as his health per mitted. He is survived by his wife, Eva White Burton; three children, Law rence McCoy Burton, Jr., Tania Renee and Tawanda Beth Burton, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Lorraine Burton of Brooklyn, N. Y.; four sisters, Jean Burton of New Jersey, Linda Faye, Mildred and Brenda Burton, all of Brooklyn, N. Y.; four brothers, John Burton of Baltimore, Md., Allen Burton of Franklinton, Andred and Ervin Bur ton, both of New York. FEED THOMAS Funeral services for Fred Thomas were held at 1 p. m. Tuesday at Perry's Chapel Baptist Church in Louisburg by the pastor, the Rev. Elbert Lee. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Thomas, son of Mrs. Annie Thomas of Louisburg, was born on April 27, 1939 in Louisburg. He died April 12 in a Nyack, N. Y. hospital. At the time of his' death he was a resident of Spring Valley, N. Y. and was a driver for the Educational Bus Com pany Surviving in addition to his mother is one sister, the Rev. Elizabeth Alston of Nanuet, N. Y.; and his grandmother, Nannie Burt of Louisburg. The arrangements were handled by R. H. Greene Funeral Home ofWarrenton. CORNELIA McGRIER Funeral services for Mrs. Cornelia Warwick McGrier, a resident of 310 West Franklin Street in Warrenton, will be held Friday at 11:30 a. m. at Second Baptist Church of Macon by the pastor, the Rev. Timothy Edwards. Burial will be in National Cemetery in Raleigh. Mrs. McGrier died Wednesday morning at Warren General Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was a retired Warren County public school teacher and a graduate of Fayetteville State Uni versity. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Cornelia Harris War wick of Macon. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Delores Rose of Raleigh; one sister, Miss Ruth War wick of Macon; three brothers, Willie War wick of Ashland, Va., Robert Warwick of Salem and Joseph W. Warwick of Washington, D. C.; and two grand children. The family will be at Harris-Turner Funeral Home from 7 p. m. until 8 p. m. Thursday and at other times at the Franklin Street resi dence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Second Baptist Church of Macon. Insulated Window!
