Area Deaths And Funerals HERBERT M. GARRETT Funeral services for Herbert Marshall Garrett, Sr., 62, of Hen derson were conducted at 2 p. m. Saturday in J. M. White Funeral Chapel in Henderson by the Rev. Russell Bell. Burial was in Sunset Gardens. Mr. Garrett died Thursday in the Durham Veterans Ad ministration Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. Among the survivors is a brother, John William Garrett, Jr., of Warrenton. KATIE BROWNING Funeral services for Mrs. Katie King Browning, 78, of Roanoke Rapids were conducted last Wednes day at 4 p. m. at Branch Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cedar wood Cemetery. Mrs. Browning, a resident of Guardian Care Nursing Home, died Sunday at Halifax Memorial Hospital. Among the survivors is a sister, Mrs. Ruth Salmon of Warrenton. LIZZIE CARTER Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Stallings Carter, 99, of Roanoke Rapids were conducted Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Branch Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Steve Conerly. Burial was in Bear Swamp Cemetery. Mrs. Carter died Sun day. Among the survivors are a daughter, Mrs. James P. Baker Ins. Agency Box 62 Warrenton, N. GRADY THOMPSON JAMES CITY COUN TY, VA. — Funeral ser vices of Grady Carson Thompson, 64, of Laxexa, were conducted Tuesday at 2 p. m. at James River Baptist Church by the Rev. Glenn Prim. Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors. Mr. Thompson was a native of Halifax Coun ty, N. C. and was a member of Good News Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, N. C. He was a World War H Army veteran, a mem ber of the Disabled Veterans, Halifax Coun ty, and was retired in 1971 a? a supervisor for the Virginia Highway Department. He died Sunday at Halifax Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, N. C. Among the survivors is a brother, Cary Thompson of Littleton, N.C. H.CECIL BOBBITT RICHMOND, VA. Funeral services for H. Cecil Bobbitt, 70, were conducted Monday at 2 p. m. at Welbourne United Methodist Church with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Among the survivors are Mr. Bobbitt's mother, Mrs. Selma J. Bobbitt of Littleton, N. C. and a sister, Mrs. Pattie Buffaloe, also of Littleton. IRVING. YOUNG Funeral services for Irvin Gray Young, 74, were conducted at 3 p. m. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home in Lit tleton with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Mr. Young died FLORAL DESIGNS 257 1881 Warrenton, N. C. Friday. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nora Mae Young; stepsons, Win fred Davis, Lawrence Davis, William Davis, and James Davis, all of Chesapeake, Va.; brother, Willie Young at Littleton; seven grand children and two great grandchildren. Basic Training Is Completed Airman Anthony L. Rooker, son of Larry C. and Iva G. Rooker of Norlina, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. During the six weeks at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sci ence through the Com munity College of the Air Force. The airman will now receive specialized in struction in the civil engineering field. Davis Completes Basic Training Airman Charles D. Davis, Jr., son of Charles D. and Phyllis A. Davis of Rt. 2, Warrenton, has com pleted Air Force training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The airman will now begin on-the-job training in the struc tural pavements field at Holloman Air Force Base, N. M. He is a 1963 graduate of Warren County High School.
