The president opened the meeting and led in the devotion. Miss Emily Ballinger presented a very timely program on food safety, as this is the season for preparation for canning. She reminded mem bers to have their pressure cooker checked for accuracy, to use only standard jars for canning, and to be aware of good sanitation habits. The program served as a refresher course on factors influencing bacteria growth in food, such as moisture, tem perature, and time. Miss Ballinger noted i that after shopping, food should be taken home within a couple of hours to be refrigerated. It is also important to have good health habits in handling raw meats, and hot foods should be kept hot and cold food kept cold when serving. The group learned that there is no shortcut to safety. The vice president made a report on the Homemakers Council Meeting and spoke briefly on a report due June 15. A motion was made that $25 be given to sponsor a 4-H member from the Lake Gaston Club in the Walk-a-Thon to be held for the benefit of Warrenton Commun ity Center. The meeting adjourn ed with the singing of the grace song.
