Family Is Glad To Be Back Home (Continued from page IB) dialysis was necessary. Meanwhile, Anne and the children lived in an apartment near the hospital. Tammy and Richard attended Hutch School, where up to 14 children of leukemia patients receive tutoring. They were taken on field trips and provided recreation oppor tunities. Anne met other couples from North Carolina at the center and they began a "N. C. family unit." Now those long days are behind them and they are back in Warren County. "We know how E. T. felt," pointed out Anne. "We wanted to go home and everything we did was to get home." At home "Boone wants to nde all around Warren County and see if it's still there." Anne said last week. "The kxb want to talk to all their friends, go swimming. and sw the dc^." she added. But being home will bang new problems. "Boone's immune system will not be normal for a year." Anne noted He will have to take some pre cautions such as wearing a mask in a crowd, not being around people who smoke, and avoiding con tact with people with colds. Boone's homecoming was the reward for his weeks away from home and his efforts during the transplant procedure. Now the family will try to go about life in a nor mal way again. One of the first things to do will be to take down the yellow ribbons and wipe a tear or two as they do. Warren County Native Ends Air Force Stint M/Sgt. Robert J. Young, Jr., a Warren County native, recently retired from the U. S. Air Force after 22 years of service. During his military career, Young received numerous commenda tions including the Meritorious Service Medal, National De fense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Longevity Service Award. Since retirement, Young has attended St. Philips College in San Antonio, Tex. on a full time basis, majoring in air-conditioning and refrigeration tech nology. He completed his freshman year with honors. He is also currently employed with the Engineering Division of the Audie Murphy Veterans Administra tion Hospital in San An tonio. Young, a 1961 graduate of Norlina High School, is the son of Robert and Louise Young of Wise. He is married to the former Ruby Lashaway of Texas, and they have four children. Man Is Awarded Silver Wings Second Lt. James C. Blasingame, son of James and Dorothy M. Blasingame of 22 Eastern Shores, Lit tleton, has been award ed silver wings following graduation from U. S. Air Force navigator training at Mather Air Force Base, Calif. Correction Warren County High School inadvertently omitted the name of Wallace Allen , 11th grader, from the honor roll published in a recent issue of The Warren Record. Allen earned a place on the list for the final grading period. Warren Successful In Reaching Goal Warren County was successful in reaching its goal of £,000 in the recent Heart Fund campaign, according to Sam Padgett of Warren ton, chairman of the Warren County Chapter of the American Heart Association. "Although many people in the county con tributed to making the campaign a success, there are several who are deserving of recognition for their out standing service," Padgett said this week. Five volunteers have been given Founder Awards for "distin guished leadership on behalf of the heart cause in North Carolina.' They are: Bonnie Munn, Martha Nickless, Lynn Capps, Elsie Weldon and Melody Parker. A certificate of merit was presented to Brad Carroll for stimulating public support in the fight against heart disease, and Becky Harris was presented an achievement recogni tion award for continued dedicated service to the association's programs.
