Mr. and Mrs. Jim Steele, Tamara, Robbie and Carmen of Ahoskie, Mr. and Mrs. Mikel Wimbrow and Mik of Greenville, S. C. and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wimbrow, II, Tikie and Mikie of Yadkinville spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Wimbrow. Buck Wiggins, Ben and Stacey of Raleigh visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiggins on Sun day. Douglas Taylor is spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Hinson and Elizabeth in Jacksonville. Mrs. Coleman Mustian and Brandon and Mrs. Eugene Mus tian are spending this week in Wilmington. Mrs. Evelyn Coleman Piacentino of Virginia Beach, Va., spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Coleman. Join ing them on Saturday night for dinner were Mrs. Sudie Coleman and Mrs. Ruth Perkinson, the occasion being Mr. Coleman's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pearson of Richmond, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kober of Hillsborough spent the weekend with Mrs. 0. T. Hicks. MRS. LEWIS DUDLEY GOOCH, JR. Cooch-Currin Vows Are Said In Oxford Miss Gail Carolyn Currin and Lewis Dudley Gooch, Jr. were married in a double-ring ceremony on Saturday, July 21, at 4 p. m. at Enon Baptist Church in Oxford. The Rev. Preston A. Creech, Jr. officiated. A program of music was presented by Mrs. Ann Daniel, pianist and Mrs. Becky Dickerson, vocalist. The church was decorated with palms, candles, fern and clusters of mixed pink and white summer flowers. The family area was roped off with ferns and white satin ribbons. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred D. Currin of Rt. 1, Oxford, is a graduate of J. F. Webb High School and Vance-Granville Com munity College, where she earned an associate of applied science degree in early child hood education. She is employed as a teacher aide at West Oxford School. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gooch of Norlina, is a graduate of Norlina High School and Atlan tic Christian College, from which he received a bachelor of science degree in business ad ministration. He is manager of City Tire Recappers in Oxford. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal-length gown of white sheer silk and Venice lace, featuring a high neckline, sheer yoke and fitted bodice with a Venice overlay. The A line skirt was enhanced by a double hem, lace overlay and double ruf fle around the skirt. A Venice lace chapel length train com plemented the gown. The custom-made, cathedral-length man tilla was enhanced with Venice lace motifs at tached to an open crown lace Camelot cap. She carried a semi-cascade of white sweetheart roses with white miniature carnations, snowdrift and sprengin fern. A white cym bidium orchid, set in the center, was removed for the wedding trip. The matrons of honor were Mrs. Nancy Kerns and Mrs. Marilyn Howard, both of Oxford sisters of the bride. Mrs.' Nancy Auth of Wichita Falls, Tex., sister of the bridegroom, attended as bridesmaid and Julie Curnn of Oxford, niece of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. The flower girl was Arfiy Auth, niece of the bridegroom. Ring bearer was Matthew Kerns, nephew of the bride. The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsmen were William Auth of Wichita Falls, Tex., brother-in-law of the bridegroom; Rod Kerns of Oxford, brother-in law of the bride; Charles Currin of Ox ford, brother of the bride; and Ronnie Moore of Henderson. The couple will make their home at 313 Pine Tree Road, Oxford. Reception Immediately follow ing the ceremony, a reception, given by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Dickerson and Mr. and Mrs. Costi Kuttek, was held at the community house at Enon Church. The community house was decorated with summer flowers and greenery. The bride's table was covered with lace. After the bridal couple cut the first slice, the four-tiered wedding cake was served by Mrs. Nell "Wiggins, Mrs. Pat Finch and Mrs. Mary McGhee, aunts of the bridegroom. The refreshment table was covered with a white lace-trimmed cloth with a net overlay. Guests were served ham biscuits, chicken salad sandwiches, finger sandwiches, shrimp stuffed eggs, Swedish meatballs, fruit, cheese and crackers and fruit punch. Assisting in the ser- i ving of the punch wre Mrs. W. H. Etheridge and Mrs. Wilson Day, aunts of the bride. Mrs. R. E. Laugham, Mrs. Delia Owens, Mrs. Mike Averett and Mrs. Margaret Satterwhite, aunts of the bride, ser ved the refreshments. Wedding Brunch A wedding brunch was given Saturday morning by Mrs. Wilson Day, Mrs. W. H. Etheridge, Mrs. Josephine Currin, Mrs. Madison Currin, and Mrs. Gilbert Dickerson for the wed ding party and out-of town guests. Rehearsal Dinner The parents of the bridegroom entertained the wedding party and out-of-town guests with a pig picking Friday night. Some 50 persons en joyed the outdoor meal. Eugene Huffman and daughter, Carol, of Barrington, 111. visited her grandmother, Mrs. Edith Holtzman, near Drewry and their daughter and son-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Bender near Lickskillet this past weekend. THOUGHT FOR FOOD •yOOmOCMOOK Stir Fry Vegetables and Chicken 4 cups shredded cabbage 1 small onion, thinly sliced 1 green pepper, thinly sliced in strips 1 large, firm tomato, cut into thin wedges 2 cups broccoli flowerets, in small pieces 3 tablespoons oil 2 teaspoons sugar 1 cup cooked cubed chicken Salt and pepper to taste Prepare vegetables. Sprin kle cabbage with sugar, salt and pepper and toss lightly. Heat oil in skillet; add vege tables in this order: saute on ions, add green pepper, cab bage and broccoli. Toss to gether. Add tomatoes and toss. Add chicken. Cover and cook 2 to 3 minutes over medium heat. Yields 6 serv ings. Norlina Class Of 1954 Has Reunion The thirtieth reunion of the class of 1954 of Norlina High School was held on July 28 at 6:30 p. m. at the Rafters Steak and Seafood House near Warrenton. There were 23 members of the original 33-member class in attendance. Peggy Carroll Allen, Shirley Carroll Lynch, Doris Williams, and Jimmy Sammons were in charge of planning the dinner meeting and making the arrange ments. A social hour was held from 7-8 p. m. following which a steak dinner was enjoyed by Horseradish Horseradish roots can be stored up to three months in the freezer before they be come bitter. The dessert course consisted of ice cream and cake, made and decorated with the class colors of blue and white by Doris Williams. Howard Mustian pre sided over the meeting. Malcolm Hutton gave the invocation and closing prayer. During the evening, the class members were entertained by personal comments from each member and the reading of "Do You Know the Seniors?" by Thelma K. Coleman, "Class Superlatives" by James "Bo" Stegall, and the "Class History" by Johnny Clarke. It was agreed that the class would meet again in five years for a for mal dinner meeting. Also, an informal picnic dinner was planned for 1986 at Peggy and Bobby Allen's lake house. The class member traveling the longest distance to attend the reunion was James "Bo" Stegall from Springfield, Mo. NOTICE The proposed budget for the Town of Norlina has been presented to the Town Board of Commissioners and is available for public in spection in the Town Hall from 9 a. m. until 5 p m. weekdays. There will be a public hearing on August 20,. 1984, at 7:00 o'clock p. m in the Town Hall. Citizens are invited to make written or oral comments.
