G1LEND4R Harvest Supper Planned The combined congregations of Hebron, Macon and Warren Plains United Methodist churches will celebrate their annual Harvest Supper at the Macon United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 10, beginning at 6:30 p. m. Following the covered dish meal, there will be a time of singing and sharing, followed by a brief special program. An offering will be taken and used to maintain the charge parsonage facilities. All members are urged to participate, and the public is cordially invited to attend. Bake Sale To Be Held The Lutheran Woman's Missionary League of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Ridgeway will sponsor a Country Store and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a. m. until 2 p. m. at the church. A variety of home baked breads, cakes, pies, cookies, candy, pickles, jelly and preserves will be offered, as well as many gifts for Christmas, including aprons, stuffed toys, potholders and decorations. A refreshment counter will be open serving drinks, sandwiches and ham biscuits. Community Watch Meets The Ridgeway Community Watch Program will meet Monday night, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p. m. at the Ridgeway Firehouse. Anyone in the Ridgeway, Manson, or Drewry area who is interested in forming a Community Watch Program is urged to attend. A film on safety will be shown and orders for signs and door decals will be taken. Fish Fry To Be Held The Norlina Fire Department will sponsor a fish fry at the firehouse on Saturday, November 10 from 11 a. m. until 8 p. m. The plates, which will sell for $4.00, will offer flounder, slaw, potatoes, hush puppies and tea. Bloodmobile To Be Here The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Fellowship Hall of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, Nov. 19, from 10 a. m. until 3:30 p. m. for those wishing to give blood. PTA Schedules Program Warren County High School PTA will meet Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p. m. at the school theater. The program will be on drug abuse. Refreshments will be served. Gymnists To Perform Warren County Gymnastics Program will be held on Nov. 12 at 7 p. m. at the Hawkins Elementary School gym. There will be demonstrations of the balance beam, tumbling, vaulting and parallel bars. Admission is $1.00 for adults and 50* for children 12 and under. The program is sponsored by the Community Schools Program of Warren County Schools. Circle To Host Program The Senior Missionary Circle of Coley Springs Baptist Church in Afton will host the annual missionary program at the church on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 5 p. m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Moore Bynum, pastor of Greenwood Baptist Church The public is cordially invited. Flea Market Scheduled The National Guard Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a flea market at the Warrenton Armory on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a. m. until 4 p. m. The auxiliary will also sell homemade baked items, hot dogs, and drinks. Spaces are still available for those who would like to sell flea market items. Supper Is Planned The ladies of Macon Baptist Church are sponsoring a ham and chicken buffet supper on Nov. 17 as the first fundraising event for a church parsonage. The menu will include country ham, fried chicken, string beans, butter beans, potato salad, pickles, rolls, dessert and beverage for |3.50. Dinners for children under 12 will sell for $2. The dinner will be served from 4:30 p. m. to 7 p. m. at the Macon „ Firehouse. Take-out orders will be available downstairs. Canned Foods Frost-bitten vegetables may be canned, but put them up as soon as possible after the frost hits. It b not safe to can strained (pureed) vegetables or meats at home. Instead, can them in the usual way and strain them just before serving. Interim pastor of the church, which was founded in 1891, is the Rev. James Greene of Raleigh. Defective Lights Blamed For Wreck A Norlina woman was charged with driving left of center Saturday in an accident caused by the malfunctioning of the headlights on her station wagon, according to Trooper C. E. Lockley with the Highway Patrol. Sandra Denise Wilson, 21, of Rt 2 was traveling north on U. S. 401 three miles south of Warrenton when her lights failed cutting off her vision of the roadway. (Staff Photo) Applications Being Taken Applications are now being taken for several nursing education offerings at Vance-Granville Community College. Even though some of the programs will not accept new students until next year, persons interested in enrolling are encouraged to apply now in order to complete prerequisites for entry into the programs and other requirements. Pertinent information regarding program requirements and application procedures follows: Part-time Practical Nursing Program — New classes begin spring quarter 1985. Applicants must have high school algebra, chemistry and biology. Applicants who have not passed these courses with at least a C may take them at the college during winter quarter beginning in December. Nursing Assistant — Winter quarter classes begin December 6. This is an 11-week course that leads to a certificate for those successfully completing requirements. The course is designed to prepare students for jobs as nursing assistants, orderlies and patient care assistants in hospitals, nursing homes or private homes. Associate Degree Program (for LPN applicants)— Licensed Practical Nurses wishing to enter the ADN program at VGCC will be eligible to begin classes in June, 1985. However, some firstyear courses may need to be taken during the winter and spring quarters in order to qualify for admission into the second-year program. Associate Degree Nursing Program (for first-year students)— The next first-year ADN class open to new students will not begin until the fall quarter, 1985; however, early application is encouraged since this is a selective program with limited openings. The driver of the truck, Joseph Dean Andrews, 30, of Rt 2, Warrenton saw the station wagon approaching, Lockley said, and pulled onto the shoulder of the road, but his truck was hit by the vehicle. Damages from the accident, which occurred at 9:15 p. m. were estimated at |700 to Andrews' truck and $400 to Ms. Wilson's station wagon. chemistry and biology are prerequisites, and applicants who have not passed these courses with at least a C may take these classes at VGCC during the winter and spring quarter sessions.
