Dial 257-3341 For Warren Record Want Ads Nature Sparing With Its Yellow Shubbery While many plants have yellow flowers, shrubs with yellow flowers are harder to come by. Shrubs with white, pink, purple or red flowers are more common. There are some shrubs with yellow flowers, however. Here is a list, from horticul tural extension special ists at North Carolina State University, of some of the shrubs with yellow flowers suitable for North Carolina: —Winter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) sheds its leaves in the fall, but remains green throughout the year because of its green bark. The small, yellow flowers of the winter jasmine contrast sharp ly with the shrub's dark green bark. The flowers are also a contrast to the winter landscape in which they open. — Leatherleaf ma honia (Mahonia bealei) produces spikes of bright yellow, fragrant flowers. An added treat is that the leatherleaf mahomia blooms in the middle of winter. The shrub makes an ex cellent accent plant or specimen plant. WARREN COUNTY GLASS Located on U. S. 158 Norlina, N. C. Specializing In Wind shields, Window Glass, Mirrors, Storm Windows & Doors and Plexiglass. Phone 456-3355 FRANK GUPTON Owner —Lady Banks rose (Rosa banksiae) is a semi evergreen, vining rose with few, if any, thorns. Diseases or insect pests may devastate hybrid ra.es but rarely bother Lady Banks rose. Clus ters of small, double, creamy yellow flowers cover the plant in late spring and early sum mer. There are culti vars with single yellow flowers or double white flowers, but the double yellow Lady Banks rose is the most popular. —Forsythia or golden beli (Forsythia X inter media) blooms in early spring before it puts out any leaves. It has been popular in North Carolina for generations because it is beautiful, easy to grow and has many uses in the land scape. —Wintergreen bar berry (Berberis julianae) makes an impenetrable hedge with its thorns and stiff, evergreen foliage. It blooms in the spring. —Scotch broom (Cyl/ssus scorparius) has green stems and small leaves. The flowers are like those of a bean because the plant is a member of the bean family. The most com mon variety of Scotch broom has dark yellow flowers and has become naturalized around some old homesite in North Carolina. Use Want Ads BUILDERS BARGAIN CENTER 210 S.
