Elizabeth Johnson, winner of the Hildegarde King Award for the most active cinb member; and Mrs. Tillie Daeke, dub president (Staff Photo) Little Garden Club Members Gather The Little Garden Club met at noon on Tuesday, May 14, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Parish House for its final meeting un til September. Hostess es for the covered dish salad luncheon were Mrs. Fern Boyd and Mrs. Nellie Gardner. The dining tables were decorated with baskets of pansies grown by garden club members. A poem and blessing were read by Mrs. Rosa Fleming. Yearly Garden Club awards were presented. The "New Bud" award was given to Mrs. Jan Perkinson as the most active new member. The Hildegard King award was given to Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, as the most active continu ing member. Following the busi ness meeting, Mrs. Elizabeth Barnes, artist and Vance-Granville Community College basketry instructor, gave a program on basketry. Mrs. Barnes said that vines from our own back yards can be made into works of art. Bullock Is Honor Grad Audrey D. Bullock of Manson graduated cum laude from North Carolina Central Univer sity in Durham on Sun day, May 12. Miss Bullock received the bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration ir. mathematics. A Dean's List student, she compiled an overall 3.0 average to entitle her to the honor of cum laude graduate. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incor porated. Miss Bullock is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bullock, Sr. of Manson. She is a 1961 graduate of Norlina High School. The clul's mini-gar den project on Main street is particularly at tractive now. Local citizens are urged to stop and admire the flowers and the foliage. Each year the Garden Club gives a civic beau tification award to a local business. However, this year there are four business es that will receive awards: Hardee's, First Citizens Bank, Wil liamsburg Manor, and Warrenton Insurance and Real Estate. The next club meeting will be held on Septem ber 10. At that meeting, members will construct bird houses. Mrs. Henderson Is Hostess For Meet Mrs. V. C. Henderson hosted the May meeting of the Town 'N Country Garden Club with Mrs. Sally Brown, president, in charge. Mrs. Brown opened the meeting with a floral quotation, after which she present ed Dr. Nannette Hender son, plant pathologist, to give a demonstration. Her talk included instructions on different methods and times of budding and grafting various plants. She gave illustrations of shield budding, plate bud, whip grafting, cleft grafting, side graft, saddle graft, and veneer graft. After her demon stration, she gave each club member a list of in structions and a time table for budding and grafting common orna mentals. During the business session, the club discussed taking tours to nearby nurseries and Mrs. Exum and Mrs. Gardner reported to the dub that they bad clean ed and weeded the gar den (riot in front of the Professional Building in Warrantor. After some brief discussion reminding members to submit copies of their demon strations to the Scrap book Committee, the meeting was adjourned into a social hour.
