May 26, at the Warren
ton Baptist Church on
Bragg Street at 11 a. m.
The Rev Roy Green,
pastor of Vaughan
Chapel Baptist Church,
will deliver the sermon.
Music for the service
will be rendered by the
Vaughan Chapel and
Ashley Grove Baptist
Church junior choirs.
During the service, the
1985 seniors will be
honored.
The public is invited to
attend the service, ac
cording to the Rev.
Walter Yarborough,
pastor of the church.

musical program which
included a salute to
"Bambi," the little deer
that had many adven
tures with Thumper the
rabbit and Flower the
skunk, as he grew up to
become the "Prihce of
the Forest."
The talented tots
thrilled their audience
of parents, grandpar
ents, relatives and
friends as they sang,
danced, and played
rhythm instuments.
Adorning the stage were
cut-out painting of
Bambi, Thumper and
Flower in a forest scene.

the set.

Tina received a
bachelor's degree in
criminal justice and is
now employed by
Mutual Life Insurance
Company of Durham.
Warnetta received a
bachelor's degree in
music and plans to
teach.

Health Meeting
Held On Monday

The quarterly meeting
of the Warren County
Citizens for Public
Health was held Monday
night.
After the invocation,
given by Dennis Retzlaff,
Katherine Hilliard,
president, presided over
the business meeting.
One major topic
discussed was the
prevention of teenage
pregnancy. It was
reported that plans are
being discussed by per
sonnel from the Health
Department and the
public schools to imple
ment a curriculum into
the middle schools enti
tled, "Postponing Sex
ual Involvement."
It is designed to assist
teens in the decision
making process surroun
ding the issue of becom
ing sexually active.
Other topics discussed
included community
volunteer involvement in
the area of hypertension
and annual public health
week activities.
Mrs. Hilliard ex
plained that strides
were continually being
made to increase public
awareness of the
seriousness of hyperten
sion through the
volunteer work of
several local church
groups. She added that
much public awareness
will also be achieved
through the many free
community blood
pressure screenings be
ing conducted through
out the county during
the month of May by
health department per
sonnel.

will be at the Areola
Nutrition Site today
(Wednesday) and the of
fice of Amos L Capps
Pulpwood Company in
Areola on Friday, May
31.
Mrs. Hilliard noted
that plans are being
made to conduct a blood
pressure screening for
employees of Carolina
Sportswear within the
next two weeks.
It was suggested that a
committee of volunteers
be appointed to oversee
projects' within the
public school system
during Public Health
Week.
A brief summary of
the 1985 Health Fair ac
tivities was also given,
along with the suggestion
that there be more in
volvement from mem
bers of the Citizens for
Public Health Organiza
tion in this activity next
year.

update on the proposed
school health grant. The
grant, if approved, would
allow for the formation
of the following positions
in the school system:
health educator, school
nurse coordinator, and
Ave school health aides.
Notification on the
status of the county's
proposal should be
received by the Health
Department around the
middle of June.
Mrs. Hilliard conclud
ed the meeting by exten
ding an invitation to all
those present from the
N.C. Public Health
Association. The Gov
erning Council of the
Association has man
dated that all members
of local Citizens for
Public Health groups be
invited without charge to
the association's annual
meeting.
The 1966 meeting will
be held Sept. 18-20 in
Asheville.
The next quarterly
meeting of the Warren
County Citizens for
Public Health is schedul
ed for Monday, August
28.

Harris Making
Good Recovery
After a five-week stay
in Wake Medical Center
in Raleigh, Dennis
Harris, one of the in
jured firemen in the
April 6 Currin's Ware
house fire, has returned
to his home in Afton.
Harris was released by
the hospital on May 13.
In a telephone conver
sation on Tuesday,
Harris reported that he
is generally "taking it
easy" and will be doing
so for approximately six
weeks until pins neces
sitated by a pelvic in
jury can be removed.
Until the six-week
period has elapsed, he
will continue to check
with his doctors periodi
cally, as he has done
once since his return
home.
Harris is encouraged
that movement lost
since the fire in his wrist
and fingers is returning.

Nursing Degree
Is Received
Miss Bonny J. Russell,
daughter of Boyd and
Virginia Russell of Rt. 1,
Manson, received a B. S.
degree in Nursing from
Hampton University in
Hampton, Va. on May 12.
Miss Russell is a
graduate of Abraham
Clark High School of
Roselle, N. J.
