Jail Renovation Gets Commissioners' OK On the advice of an of ficial in the North Carolina Department of Human Resources, the Warren County Commis sioners in their mid monthly meeting last Wednesday evening ap proved renovation measures totalling $C.S0o at the jail. In a letter dated Nov. 13 to Sheriff Theodore Williams, Thomas A. Ritter, head of Jail and Detention for the state, requested that a plate steel security door be in stalled at the main en trance of the jail which opens directly into the booking area and that an electric lock be installed on the chain link fence door. These corrective actions, he said, were re quired to ensure the safe custody, safety, health and welfare of persons confined at the facility. Further recommenda tions of Ritter as a result of his Oct. 29 visit to the jail included that some form of emergency com munication system be developed in order for the jailer on duty to have immediate emergency communication and back-up in case of assault, attacks or fire at the jail, that all current jail staff and any new jail staff receive jailer cer tification training, that adequate personnel be available at all times to provide continuous supervision to those con fined and that all plumb ing fixtures be maintain ed in an operable, sanitary manner. Present at the meeting was Tommy Marrow, economic development planner for the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments, who reviewed with the com missioners a list of top priority projects for possible Economic Development . Ad ministration funding in Warren County. The commissioners went on record in support of the overall economic development plan of Region K. An allocation not to ex ceed $50 was approved for support of the Opera tion Santa Claus pro gram at Caswell Center in Kinston. There is cur rently one resident from Warren County residing at the center for the men tally retarded. At least one item of considerable interest to the county's citizens was booked for the Dec. 2 commissioners' meeting at which time the final decision is to be made regarding the fate of the Warren General Hospital facility. Kearney, was conducted on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p. m. at Spring Baptist Church in Warren Coun ty. Kearney is a resident of Portsmouth, Va. and a native of Warren County. He is the son of Fannie Kearney and the late Richard G. Kearney. A graduate of John R. Hawkins High School, the ministerial student is currently attending Virginia Union School of Theology. Harrison Rites Held On Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Susie Leigh Davis Harrison, 88, formerly of Route 1, Norlina, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Earl Pennell. Burial was in the Wise Cemetery. Mrs. Harrison died Sunday in Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson. Among the survivors is a niece, Mrs. Bernard Harris of Norlina. Pallbearers were Kevin Harris, Bill Walker, Sidney Burton, Bernard Harris, Fred Hicks and Ernest Collins.
