Thursday night held the first of three meetings designed to in crease involvement of count) citizens in the public school system. "The formation of the Task Force is an attempt to involve a represent ative group of citizens in the system's improve ment process," accord ing to School Superin tendent Michael F Williams Invitations for membership were ex tended to 52 area citizens, including business leaders, elected officials, parents, students, professionals and school employees. Forty-two agreed to participate." A native of .Johnston County, Mrs Harris holds a B A degree in English from N.C. State University and a mas ter s degree in education from N.C. Central University She is cur rently working on a master's degree in counseling from NCCU. In an interview Mon day, Mrs. Harris said she felt the Board of Educa tion needed to be "recep tive to the needs of the people in Warren Countv " ' I foci students' needs should be the primary concern of the board and that's where the finances and funds should be directed " Mrs Harris, who taught at Hawkins Junior High and Warren County High schools before joining the facul ty at Vance Senior High School, said she feels that teachers in Warren County need more input into the educational process." They'll tie happier, which will carry over in to their classrooms and it will be better for educa tion in the county," she commented. A member of the Board of Directors of the N.C. Association of Educators, Mrs. Harris serves on that body's T-snce and planning cunimittee She is married to Macon native Dennis Harris, Jr., owner and operator of D&L TYucking They are expecting their first child in July.
