Small Business Courses Planned Vance-Granville Community College's Small Business Center is still accepting registration for a series of small business cour a series of small business courses planned in January, Daniel W. Managing Cash Flow?Louis burg High School, Thursdays, 6:30-9:30 p.m., Jan. 15 (3-hour course). Also planned is a "Manage ment 'Know-How' " seminar on January 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the VGCC auditorium. Jim Hamlet of Sanford, industrial trainer and industrial/business management leader, will con duct the session. A graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, he holds B.A. degree in social sciences and the M.A. degree in administration. He also did graduate work in adult educa tion at N.C. State University. With a total of 39 years in education and business/industry training, Hamlett is well qualified to teach this manage ment seminar, Guin noted. The course is designed to af ford participants the opportunity to develop a hands-on, opera tional model for managing their small business. Major manage ment styles will be explored as they pertain to communication, motivation, and management by the numbers. Emphasis will be , given the role of the small business manager in a competi tive market. Except for the course on "Managing Cash Flow," which is free, a fee of $15 will be charged for each course. Teele Is Named Outstanding Man Arthur Earle Teele of Tallahassee, Fla. has been named in the 1986-87 edition of Who's Who In America. The former Vaughan resident received a bachelor's degree from North Carolina College and a master's degree and Ph. D. from Cornell University of Ithaca, N.Y. Among those posi tion listed on his vita are: social studies department chairman at Warren County Training School of Wise; department chairman at St. Augustine's College of Raleigh; department chairman and dean of graduate studies at Prairie View Texas A. and M. College; and consultant for graduate programs for the U. S. Office of Education. He has held membership in the National Black Alliance for Graduate Education and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Teele is the brother of Mrs. Cora Watson of Vaughan How to Avoid Feeling Stuffed The holiday season can be a time of unbridled indulgence in food and drink with lots of turkey and ham, all the fixings, and perhaps a good wine or cocktails to toast family and friends. Doctors suggest moderation with holiday food and drink. If you must try everything on the menu, take small portions and leave room for the main course. Don't leave your self feeling more stuffed than the turkey. Going overboard at the holi day groaning board can have you groaning with indigestion or heart burn when the party's over. Areola Firemen Fight House Fires Two trucks from the Areola Volunteer fire department responded recently to fires in the Hollister area responsible for the destruction of two homes. According to Gary Harris, Ar eola fireman, the interior of the mobile home on Ita Road belong ing to Morris Lynch was destroyed last Monday night by flames originating from an oil furnace. A home off N. C. 561 owned by T. R. Wollett was destroyed the following night by flames originating from a wood heater. No one was at home at the time of either incident and there were no injuries.
