"People don't realize how much there is to do at a recrea tion area in order to run it right," Kirk said. "It means long hours and lots of troubleshooting 24 hours a day, but there is a lot of satisfaction in the job, too. The real gratification is having a monumental task ahead of you and being able to bring people in line, then seeing a real family? mother, father and kids?having a good time and appreciating the outdoors together." Superintendent Kirk is active ly involved as a coach of Little League Baseball. He and his wife, Fonda, and their two sons, Tobert III and Tennyson, are ac tive members of the Kester Tem ple AME Zion Church. He has been promoted to Reservoirs district superintendent in charge of the three North Carolina reservoirs?Kerr Lake, Jordan Lake and Falls Lake. Presently, these three state recreation areas accommodate nearly two million visitors per year, which is expected to grow to over five million in the next few years. This is largely due to the opening of more recreational areas at the new Falls Lake and over 800 new campsites at Jordan Lake.
