Mrs. Hilliard's proposals con
cerned four CBA programs: In
School Suspension, Supervised
Weekend Recreation, 4-H and
Youth, and Youth and Family
Alternatives. Approximately 617
youths will benefit from the
programs.
The projected cost of the four
programs is $82,302. State and
Granville-Vance county CBA
funds will cover $44,316 of the ex
pense; CBA funds for Warren
County will contribute $28,716 and
the county's $9,270 will furnish
the balance.
County commissioners also
passed a motion of intent to in
clude in the budget for FY '87-'88,
Garden Club Has
April Gathering
The April meeting of the Town
N Country Garden Club was held
recently at the home of Mrs.
Helen Gardner. Mrs. Sallye H
Brown, president, opened the
meeting with the reading of the
club prayer.
The minutes w ere read and ap
proved. Expressions of thanks
were read from members, who
were ill.
Committees were formed to
elect a slate of officers for next
year, constitution and by-laws,
horticulture and beautification.
The chairpersons were asked to
meet with members and to give
reports at the next meeting.
Members reported on souve
nirs collected for the state
convention.
It was discussed that a trip will
be sponsored by the club this
summer to Norfolk, Va. The
month and date will be finalized
at the next meeting.
The meeting closed with a
quotation. A delicious repast was
served by the hostess.

$13,196, the requisite 30 percent of
the operating cost of a forestry
tractor plow fire suppression
unit. A proposal from the county
to enable the purchase of the unit
will be presented to the General
Assembly by the state Depart
ment of Natural Resources and
Community Development. Ac
cording to a letter received by
Chairman Clayton from Repre
sentative Thomas C. Hardaway,
acceptance is "contingent upon
the county matching state funds
on a 30 percent/70 percent ratio."
If the proposal is approved, the
state will contribute $179,290 or 70
percent of the unit's operating
cost, the tractor and a shelter.
Securing the unit will benefit
county residents who have been
dependent on the availability of a
comparable inajor fire-fighting
unit from surrounding counties.
In other business, the board:
?Resolved to recommend to
the state that the eastern end of
S R. 1336 be abandoned.
?Received for information
clarification of the use of a depu
ty sheriff as a child support en
forcement officer.
?Appointed Gordon B. Hull to
a three-year term and James S.
Wilson to a one-year term on the
Kerr-Tar Regional Council of
Governments' Aging Advisory
Council. A third vacancy will be
filled at a later date.
?Resolved to proclaim June
14-20 as Franklin-Vance-Warren
Opportunity, Inc. Community Ac
tion Week" in Warren County to
celebrate 20 years of service by
the agency.
Exercise Tips Given

Tanya Pettaway gave exercise
tips at the April meeting of the Up
and Coming 4-H Club. Almarene
Henderson showed how to make
silk bows for the hair.
During the business session,
the 4-H Fund Raising Basketball
Game was discussed.
The meeting was called to
order by the president, Garrick
Terry. The opening song was led
by Tanya Pettaway. The 23rd
Psalm was read as the
devotional.
The meeting was adjourned
with members repeating the 4-H
Motto: "To Make The Best
Better."
Refreshments were served to
members following the closing of
the meeting.
