Membership Campaign Begun By Associates The N. C. Museum of History Associates began their 1988 Membership Campaign recently with a luncheon and orientation session for 90 volunteers from mideastem North Carolina at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Peterson in Tarboro. Three members from the state history museum's Warren Coun ty committee were present at the luncheon. The Museum Associates is a 13,000 member statewide support group for the N. C. Muscuta of History and 24 state histc!> sit :. The group provides fund? /tu rn useum exhibits, artefact pur chases and educational ? ijgrams in every county of the ?tate. Campaign volunteers were among tl;e first m view an ex tremes rare set of 12 silver forks made by Charlotte silversmith Thomas 1 rotter (1827-1865). Ac cording to W irren County acting Chairman Mrs. Jan Perkinson, "The forks were purchasd for $4,200 by the Museum Associates with membership funds." The forks are made in the fiddle style with rounded lobes and tipped handles. Volunteers also heard about several educational resources which the Museum Associates are providing for all eighth grade social studies classrooms in N. C. These include several audiovisu al programs, such as "The Roanoke Voyages/ America's 400th Anniversary," "The Way We Were in North Carolina" and "The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame." Each of these educa tional resources is provided free of charge to teachers and stu dents. The programs are also available to other grade levels and private schools upon request. "The Museum Associates are pleased to return membership funds directly to every county of the state through these pro grams," Mrs. Perkinson stated, "and it helps me in my job of recruiting members in Warren County when people can see a direct benefit here at home." Mrs. Perkinson noted that museum memberships begin at $20 and may be obtained by call ing any member of the Warren County committee.
