THE LAKE GASTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NEWSLETTER By HOWARD TOMLINSON Executive Director Spring finally arrived on Lake Gaston with the first bass tourna ment last Saturday, and Easter Sunday ushering in the '89 boating season. Let's hope it's not a false start, and that the winter weather is now behind us. The Lake Gaston Chamber of Commerce looks forward to an ac tive 1989 season. Our spring program got under way when we held the first of our After Hours Socials on Monday, March 13. These get togethers enable us to spend a little time relaxing after work hours with food, refreshment and fellowship. About 30 members and guests attended this gathering at the Rafters Steak House in Warrenton. The party was co-sponsored by the Rafters and Blaylock Funeral Homes of War enton and Littleton. It was a great success, and we look for ward to more After Hours Socials this year. The Chamber is very appreciative of Phyllis Peele's (owner of the Rafters) and Bobby Blaylock's contributions to this special evening. March 22nd marked the second meeting of the Lake Gaston Water Safety Council, an organization under the Chamber's sponsorship. The purpose of this Council is to promote safety in boating and water related activities on Lake Gaston through free education offered to the boating public, installation of buoys and other devices on the Lake and creation and revision of pertinent rules and regulations. Member ship is open to all interested parties. Wide-ranging support of this Council and its activities is demonstrated by the initial participation of individuals, private marinas, local rescue squads, Virginia Game Commission and North Carolina Wildlife Commission officers and representatives of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The interest and backing of all these groups indicates the making of a strong, united effort to bring about some needed control and direction over water activities on the lake? before more accidents mar the enjoyment we all find at Lake Gaston. Directors and officers were elected at this recent meeting. Direc tors are: Lloyd Ferguson, U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, two years; Jim Ward, North Carolina Wildlife Commission, two years; J. W.
