Norlina Athletes Receive Honors
At Annual Recognition Banquet
Members of Norlina Middle
School's athletic teams received
their school's top individual
sports awards Tuesday, May 23
during the annual athletic ban
quet held in the school's
cafeteria.
Although several individual
athletes received top honors,
every athletic participant re
ceived a certificate of participa
tion.
Nicole Bolton and Antonio
Davis received Norlina Middle
School's highest athletic awards,
for female and male athletes of
the year.
Jeffrey Hayes, a Warren Coun
ty native and 1985 graduate of
Warren County High School, was
the guest speaker for the
occasion.
Hayes spoke to the student
athletes, parents and guests
about the importance of
academics in relation to
athletics. He challenged the
students to give 110-150 percent of
themselves in academics like
they do in athletics.
"One day," Hayes told the
crowd, "the ball will stop
bouncing."
Hayes said although athletics
are good for a person, it is best to
concentrate on academic work.
"You are representing your
family and you are representing
your community," he said. "But
most of all, you are representing
yourself."
