Let them feel good while they may. A negro was found dead in the woods near Statesville last week. He had thxee whiskey booties with him, one full the others empty. The doctors pronounced it consumption. The case against ex Sheriff Bailey, of Davie county, about 11,000 gallons of whoso liquor was seized some time ago, was dismissed , before the U. S. Commissioner at Mocksville. In the elections last week the Democrats carried Virginia and Maryland. The Republi cans carried Mass., 23ew Jersey INe v Tork, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas and South Dakota. Nebraska was carried by the Populist 3bnidate for Judge; Gover nors were elected in Virginia, Mass., Ohio, and Iowa. The elections In the other states were not for governer. Gov. Carr has issued a p roc. lamation, appointing Thursday the, thirtieth day of Nv. as a J Thanksgiving .day. It is re quested that the entire people of tlie state observe the day in a suitable and appropriate manner lay ing aside their secu lar pursuits as far as possible. It is weli for the people to lay aside their pursuits and with one accord gather and return thanks to Him Who watches over us and gives the abun dance of good gifts which we enjoy. eliave not heard of an 5 Democrats going wild over Result of last week's elections; ..Still it is not necessary to take the blues over it. The Repub cans feel good, or say they do. UsbSro The Populists feel only tolera- bly good, just in proportion as I their sympathies are aroused by Republican success, and not on their own account, as the .elections in Virginia and Kan sas showed that they were not in it. The only consolation concerning themselves that thev haveis the election of a supreme court Judge in Ne braska. The Democrats can rejoice in the 50,000 thousand majority in Virginia; but the New York and New Jersey news, where the Republicans carried the day is not very digestible for the boys. , As to the why fores, etc, of ?Ae result, they are numerously given. One says because the repeal bill passed, another be cause it did! not pass sooner, a nother financial depression, and so on. But about all that is absolutely certain is that it was the way T the vote " was cast. . , CUut these elections ; can have 'no signficance as to the fore shadowing of 'the result Jin 1896. . . Although it had been raining the day. before and the condition of the weather was still threatening the morning of the sale, quite a number of the best citizens of the county and surrounding country were p: resent to witness the sale and p irehased some choice lots in the western portion of ' the town. And the parties who p irehased are going to improve their lots right away. While We Pces were not high they were reasonably good and the members of the company seem very well satisfied with the re sdlt. And those who purchas- ea are no doubt well pleased. for they got splendid property cheap in a to wn which has the brightest;prosp0cts before her on any in the state, and in this opinion the people of the town are not alone. The - actual amount of the sale was six thousand, two hundred and twelve dollars. ($6,212.00). These are the ac tual bonafide figures without any embelishment whatever. The number of lots sold was '77 and in this are included th Hackett Knoll of 3 acres, an alao the knoll opposite co taming 3 acres. Upon th knolls will be erected at D, early date some of the fines residences, in the state, whic will be becoming ornament to fhe town. - ihe prospects of the future as bright and as propitous he most sanguine could h. The philomath ic Society of Moravian Fall academy had a most masterly dis cussion on last Friday night, on the old aubject of "married life rs single life." The English language grows weak", staggers and actually gives out this side of a discription of the arguments on this question. - It is said that Mr R Don Laws and Dr F H Gilreath made the greatest speeches of their lives. Mr Laws led opt and represented married life as a state of ineffable Wiss, in the glowing freshness of living reality. He touched heights of unsur passable magnificence that made one feel like Moore's Peri, as if he stood looking through he bars of the "Pe arly Gates." But the comedy changed to tragedy as if by magic, when Dr Gilreath arose and painted the other side of the question. Other speakers did welk Mr Alexander Steelman is prepairing to move back to Yadkin county. He says taxes are too counfounded high in. the "State of Wilkes" and the land too poor for him to stay here. A new road will soon be opened up from Moravian Falls to Browns ford on the Yadkin, which will add to the advantages of the merchants of Mora vian as well as the entire vicinity west of the village. During a recent attack of La Grippe, -which assumed the form of a catarrh, soreness of the longs, accom panied by an .aggravating . cough, I used various remedies and prescriptions. While some of these medicines partially alleviated the coughing during the day, none of them afforded me any relief front that spasmodic action of the lungs which would seize me the moment I attempted to lie down at night. After ten or twelve such nights, I was . Nearly In Despair. and had about decided to sit np all night in my easy chair,: and procure what , sleep I could In that way.
