Cowles has had a claim against the Gov ernment for money for work rdone at the Charlotte mint, and has made efforts ever since to have Congress allow it. Wednesday . evening, of las week, down at Adam's Islandl in tile lower part of Wilkes, a crowd went Veining,5 ahd: with two prags caught 3G large'' red' horse fishy weighing-f rom 9 to 13lba. each; the smallest one weighing 9lbs. Just the ev-ening before, at Martin's ford, not far from the sam4 place, 32 mlulets were caught. Some of the boys here last Wee nesday afternoon tried thei luck as fishermen, and captured about lOOlbs. cat fish, suckers and perch. Thare was one red horse, -which weighed about -6lbs.4 There seemi to be plenty of fish in the river now. The Association decided to have a mass meeting and bas ket picnic at Curtis' Grove, in Wilkesboro, on the 4th. of July, and the committee of arrange ments appointed for. the occa sion is composed of T B Finley, J T Ferguson J M Wellborn. A M Church and J M Turner. Col W jl H Cowles will deliver an address on the occasion, and other speakers will be procured by the committee. It is desired to have a pleasant and profita ble time, and everybody is cor dially invited to attend and as sist in making the occasion a success.
