M. Vannoy is improy iag, and we hope he will soon be able to be up again. Mr. Charles Zoll, proprie tor of the Wilkesboro Hotel, who has been quite sick, is up again. F. W. Aldrich, of Bristol, Tenn., was in the city last week. He was looking after lumber interests. Glad to see Harrison Lew js able to be up again, after be confined sometime with in juries received by a falling scaffold. Love sq. L VV. Lonsford. of ace, is very low with ery aipelas, and there is serious doubt as to his recovery. Lee P.ummer asks us to announce that there will be a "Poke-Party" at Sul phur Springs Academy, on Saturday night before Easter Sunday, for the benefit of the Academy, dpen at 7.30 o'clock. Everybody is invited. L. F. Seehawn, of the firm of Henkls, Craig & Co., livery men, of Lenoir, was here last week, buying up mules. He shipped one car load, which he said are to go to the island of Ja J maica. He has made several trips to Jamaica before this. We were glad to see Mr. T. B. Campbell, of Straw, in town last week. It was his first trip here since his leg was broken. He has had a long and tedio is spell of it, and he can use his leg very little yet. He uses c -utches. Seven girls and one young man were con t e,s t a n t s Miss Margaret Church was the successful con testant. Sheriff Call has placed the Trap Hill tax books in the hands of C. G. McCann: Ed wards, W. A. Thorpe; Union, A. F. Brown; Beaver Creek and Elk, J. F. Barlow: Jobs Cabin, M. F. Baker. Taxpay ers in those townships should pay to the above. The sheriff tells us he must collect over $3,000 00 by the first of April to payoff the R. R. tax. He wants delinquents to pay at once, and no foolishness about it. The fire alarm was sound ed at the Pin Factory late Fri day afternoon. The Fire caught near the roof in the in side, it is supposed, from the friction of a pulley. When discovered the blaze, covered several feet in area. The wind was blowing lively and the flames were rapidly spreading. The promptness and faithful work of those present saved the buildings. The last snow 'of the season, perhaps, fell last week, and it was a beautiful sight, though not quite so pleasant, following as it did, the few spring days. The snow it was a 'wind snow" began flying amid the wind about dark Thursday night. We have read of "Mu sic, Moonlight, Love and FJow ers. ' But we saw for the first time Thursday night, moon light and falling snow. Along the summit of the Blue Ridge from Virginia to Georgia, lay restless a bank of snow clouds, but in every other direction as far as eyes could penetrate the sky was clear as crystal, and the moon never shone more brightly.
