Enos Hays and Julia Mar- low were married up in the Brushies, Sunday week ago. Esq. M. K. Steel, of Turn ersburg, Iredell county, was in town last week on business. Tilden Saner and Annie . Howell, colored, were married in Boomer township last week. R F. Reynolds and Fannie Reynolds were married, in the Rock Creek country, last week. The Winston Daily says: ''Miss Fannie Peden, of Wilkes bfo, is visiting at Capt. R. B. Glenn's." Mrs. D. A. Daniels, of Da vidson College, visited her un cle Dr. Ellis, at Oakwoods, last week. Maj. BiH Vannoy and his laughter, Miss Lola, attended .he Tobacco Fair last week. The debating society at the Academy is getting along well, we are glad to say. It is a good thing for the boys. Tom Crysel, Esq., who at tended the tobacco Fair last week, says it was splendid in every respect. This office would be glad to do your job printing for you. . Give us a trial & be convinced that we'll do you right. Esq. Atkins and wife, of ' Jonesville, were up last week looking after their farm at Go shen, and visiting relatives. William Watts, Esq., has moved to Burke county, and we regret to lose him very much. But Burke gets a good citizen. Mr. James A. Mitchell, of Iredell, has opened a beef and meat market at this place. He is originally a Wilkes boy, and we wish him. success. -The Airless Heater, "the best heating stove On the mar-; ket, can be found at Morrison's at very low prices. They are the kind you want for Winter. Miss Nellie Cowles has re turned from her visit to Win ston, to the delight of her many friends. Her sister, Mrs. Dr. Horton is very much improved. William Gentle, who live? near Oakwoods, brought us , a few bunches of grapes the second growth this year; They were well developed and ripe. It is to be regretted that Esq. Lonsford, of Lovelace, has decided to leave the county and move to Atlanta. He is one of our best citizens, and we wish him well wherever he goes. Mrs Lee Watts, of Nash ville, Tenn., visited her uncle Dr. Ellis, at Oakwoods, ' last week. Dr. Ellis accompanied her to visit relatives at David son College, the .first of this week; Mr. Joe Harris and family have moved to Morgan ton. He raised one that weighed 11 pounds and 2 ounee, and has others nearly as large. That heads the list. Hort Bower, of Le noir, is in town for a couple of days. He brought his mother with him, who is spending a few c ays with her daughter, Mrs. Winkler. '?ossuras are not so plenti ful as they were. Some of the boys were out all night last week and never found a track. They think of staying at home and s leeping hereafter and take "tater" straight without ''pos sum sop." Es. Wiley Lewis was taken with an attack of cholera mor bus, while on a raid down on Hunting Creek, last week, and was in a precarious condition for gome time. Dr. Turner was summoned, and gave such im mediate relief that he brought the pick man home next day. Store keepers and gaugers and others who hold collector Hawkins' checks on the defunct national bank at Asheville nee u have no uneasiness. As soon as proper arrangements can be made these checks will tbe cashed, as they are all cov ered by government bonds. Lawyer Carico, of Trap Hill, was in town Thursday. W. P. Carson, manager of the pin works has moved his family into the cottage near Mr. Absher's. Lawyer Hickerson spent Sun day with his mother at Ronda. The Wilkesites who attended the fair returned Saturday. Presiding Elder Blair return ed to Elkin Monday. Rev. Mr. Bradshaw filled his appointmentat Elkin, Sunday. W. I. Land passed through Monday on his way to Sparks' distillery where lie is store keeper and ganger. W. B. Henry left Thursday for Greensboro and other points, in the interest of his produce trade. Our daughters are finding favor in the sight of strangers. Tuesday the 9th at the resi dence of Esq. Deed Woodruff, his daughter Miss Mollie and Mr. Thomas Johnson, employe jof the tannery company, were married. Our heartiest con gratulations to them. W. C. Walker left Tuesday to take his little boy to the Deaf and Dumb Institute at Morgan ton. --The ladies of the Academy have organized a literary soci ety known as the Waverly Lit erary Society. Miss Gertrude Johnson, president, Miss Mattie Mc Niell , vice president , Miss Clara Forester, secretary , and Miss Frankie Staley, treasurer. They meet each Friday after noon. Blankenship and Zora Watson were married, the Rev. M. McNeill performing the ceremony. Jim Wallace has recieved samples and will sell goods for John R. Carey & Co., of Rich mond. This is an old and reli able firm and we wish Jim much success. - Rev. Thomas Burry, of Miss., has been secured as rec tor of? the Episcopal church, and will arrive this week and conduct services Sunday. W. A. Wiles and Bertie Caudill were married at the residence of A.' C. Billings at Dockery, one morning last week just before daylight. It was a runaway match. Presiding Elder Blair, of Elk in, preached at the Methodist church here on Sunday and at North Wilkesboro on Sunday night. They were both good sermons. W . I. Carpenter, of Frank lin, N.
