Hia next visit here will be NOVEMBER 10 1923 I Building Acquittals in Wake Court Seven of the ten defendants tried in Wake county Superior Court last week were turned loose by the juri es that tried them. Only three convictions as a result of a week of Wake Superior Court is declared in court circles to be a record without precedent in the re cent history of Wake court annals. Oidinarily there are not more than two or three acquittals at a week’s term of the Superior Court, it is de clared, but the pendulum seems to be swinging around. Emphasis is p'aced by the lawyers upon the fact that the juries found the seven de- 1 fendants not guilty and convicted on ly three defendants. Failure of Wake juries to make convictions rendered Judge Garland Midyette’s job of sentencing compa ratively light Saturday. He had two cases that were brought over from a preceding term, making the total number five. Frank Holland, convicted of illicit distilling after a strenuous flight, drew four months on the county roads Everett Long, convicted of larceny and driving an automobile while in toxicated, got four months on the former charge and 60 days on the latter. Archie Walder, convicted of larceny, was given four months on the roads also. Wallace Powell, convicted at a former term of Superior Court, of an assault on a female, who has spent two months in jail, was given a suspended sentence of six months cn tile roads and taxed with the costs. S. P. Bryant, a young white man, who had been used as a State’s wit ness, was given a sentence of 60 days in jail for illicit distilling. When released upon his own recognizance for the purpose of getting evidence against alleged bootleggers, it is said that efforts were made to keep him away from the courthouse. ZEBULON RECORD, FRIDAY,’ NOVEMBER 13, 1925 THE RECORD WILL Aw k .1 $2,000 IN PRIZES AND CASH (Continued from page one) save enough money out of your earn ings to purchase a car of this value or one of the other gifts awaiting you in the gift distribution? Figure it out for yourselw. You will r°adily see the opportunities that partici pants in this distribution affords. Work In Spate Time Very little is required of you to win. You have the time, plenty of it. A few hours a day spent among your neighbors and friends for The Zebulon Record is sufficient to win the biggest gift in the list. You have the time. Really, your spare time — a few minutes at the noon hour, a few minutes of an evening —is worth more to you these next few weeks than any full time employment you could imagine. Yet it is but a side issue—a spare time proposition. Nothing more. There is no sentiment about it. To earn money is honor able and the big, handsome, speedy car is now provided, it is her for you. You Cannot Lose You cannot lose. You are paid for every minute of your time. Every active non-gift winner is given an absolute guarantee that he or she will be paid for his or her time—one fifth of every subscription is yours if you fail 10 land of of the big gifts. T1 at, in tselL is a good business proposition. V r e all have spare mom ents after work that we can turn into cash. There is ore thing, though, that is certain. There is absolutely no way jes can one of the?-! gifts either car or cash except by votes. There are bit’, t'o ways you can get votes. One is by loMocting thj free vote coupons which appear in each issue of the Record. The other is by securing subscriptions or renewals. You Can’t Buy Votes No votes will be sold. There is ab solutely no way you can secure votes except for coupons or subscriptions. You are not to spend one cent your self. You are to get your friends to save coupons and to secure subscrip.- tions and renewals. Coupons and subscriptions will win and these two alone. If there is anyone who imagines he or she can enter and carry away a big gift by spending money, he or she is advised now to stay out. Read the vote schedule. Unless you want to compete in the same fair and square manner in which the Zebulon Record puts on this great gift dis tribution, save your energy for some other plan. All On Even Terms Nothing but straight and honest, fair methods will be tolerated., If you are in earnest, if you w 11 devote an hour a day, if you are- ready to com pete on even terms with every one e’se and if you want to assure your self of sonic real money or the big car—then you want to participate in this distribution of gifts. More Votes at the Start In order to absolutely eliminate any possible chance of anyone “buying” his or her way to victory, The Record is giving more votes at the start than at the finish. As the campaign progresses, the voting power of both coupons and subscriptions diminish until finally they are worth less than one-sixth their present value. The final week is of the least concern, for votes then count so little. The first weeks are the weeks that count most when coupons and subscriptions count the most. ‘The early bird catches the worm.” It is advisable to start early. It pays to be able to make up your mind quickly. Votes are greater and easier to get at the start. Enter your name today. Start Early—lt Pays You can get more coupons and more subscriptions at the start than you can when many candidates are 1 out after them. At the start the FIRST SUBSCRIP HON COUPON Good for 20,000 Extra Votes Accompanied by the nomination blank, and your first subscription this coupon will start you in the race for the magnificient Zebulon Record gifts with a grand total of more than 35,000 (if new 60,000) votes. This coupon may be used only once and is valid only when accompanied by a subscription remittance. Name of Subscriber Contestant’s Name Amount Enclosed » - This coupon will count 20,000 free votes when returned on the Campaign Manager, together with the first subscription you obtain. It must be accompanied by the cash, and the subscription must be for a period of one year or longer. The 20,000 free votes are In ADDITION to the number given on the subscription, as per the reg ular vote schedule. ■■■■flflr*2BflflflHflflHHHßßßHflMflflHßßHHßßßHßHßVW :niaßB IBEQIBl BEQIB MONEY TO LOAN On Either Long or Short Terms. FIRE LIFE BURGLARY INSURANCE ACCIDENT AND HEALTH BONDS LIABILITY PROPERTY DAMAGE TORNADO WIND STORM PLATE GLASS HAIL HUNT& RANTLEY _ L „ rs. What you get early, you get easily. And the early I coupons and subscriptions count up I faster —the votes are bigger. The I first weeks are the best. Make up your mind now. Enter now. Everybody wins. You win. Y'ou can’t help but win. The more you do the more you get of course. But everybody wins something. The More—The Easier The more candidates entered the easier it i sfor you to secure the car or the purse or the gold or one of the; big cash awards. How is that, do you ask? It is like this: If there are only two candidates j running for the office of sheriff of Wake county, the winning candidate; must have over half of all the votes win. Everybody wins. You cannot j lose. Cut out or tear out the nomina tion blank on this issue of The Record write in your name, your address, and if you have a telephone your tele phone number. Mail or bring your nomination to this office. This is your first step. That starts you off with 5,000 votes. Nominations may be made by anyone for anyone. *A friend can nominate you. You can nomnate a friend. But only one nomination counts for each entry. No ! one is barred. Men, women, boys and girls are all eligible. Make the start. Let’s go! Short and Snappy This campaign will not be a long drawn out affair of several months’ duration. It extends over a period of only a few weeks. It closes De- j cember 23rd. Think of securing in! about seven short weeks, gifts that would ordinarily require months, yes j even years, of self-denying and sav ing to acquire—and these are given to you for your spare time and a lit- j tie interest in helping The Zebulon Record enlarge its subscription list. Information and Assistance In order to give everyone who par ticipate sin this great conipaign the greatest possible assistance and to properly handle the circulation so that each new subscriber will get his paper promptly, to avoid confusion, The Zebulon Record has secured the services of a circulation manager. He is throughly experienced in this line of work. He will give his entire time and attention to those who desire to take part in this gift distribution. If there is anything you want to know or do not understand, call and see him, or telephone him. , ; The Record office will be open ; 8 a. m. to 6 p. m. each day. You s i will always find the circulation man ager here. Put him to work for you. H e wil be glad to help. Telephone him if you wish. If you prefer, a i representative of The Record will call i and explain just how to go about ■ j winning the gift of your choice, if ! I you request it. •| * You have as many friends as any •! one else in this community, so be i j sure and enter your name today, cast in order to win. But if there are j f.ve candidates seeking the election ! a ssheriff, the winning candidate need ’ | only have more votes than any of the I' four. In other words victory comes to the winner with far less votes when i two are running. Yet the total votes i cast in each instance may be the i same. i Votes Alone Win ! Remember this, too: The biggest ■ prizes as big as they are, have noth t ing to do with the number of votes required to win them. Only so many . votes will be cast. It makes no dif ference whether the total vote is 100,000 or one million. The car goes to the leader with the most votes. All he or she has to do is to have more votes than any other candidate. Because the gift list is so extraor dinary, so big, it is probable some one will imagine that it will take an awful lot of votes to win. No one j knows how many votes will be re- I quired. No one can tell. With a reasonable list of candidates in this election just a few good subscriptions can win the biggest gift. When this election is over everyone will be sur prised at the smal number of votes required to be the recipient of gifts. Then those without courage will say, “Why, if I had only known how few votes it took, I could have done that.” Then it will be too late.
