Local and Social Personal Ppints Paragraphed Miss Maytie Bell Finch was confin ed to her room with a severe cold several days this week. Misses Mattie Icard, Evelyn Speight and Miss Wood of the Wakelon faculty were Raleigh visitors, Thursday of last week. Mrs. Merritt Massey underwent a very successful operation at the Mary Elizabeth Hospital, Friday iof last week and is recovering nicely.' Miss Ella Joyner tvho is a student at Pineland Colleg’e is spending this week with home folks here. Misses Vivian Dawson and Mary O’Dear were in Raleigh Tuesday. They called on the latter’s sister, Mrs. Mer ritt Massey, at the Mary Elizabeth Hospital and found her much improv ed. Phillips were Papa : City visitors Saturday after noon and enjoyed seeing the “Big I'nwule” at the State Theatre. Miss Emma Mitchell, of Virginia, was the week-end guest of Miss Lucy Turnage. ( Miss Maude Bundy, one of the pop- v ular Wakelon teachers, spent the week-end with friends at High Point. Pr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Flowers and Chas. Jr., went to Raleigh Saturday, I to see the “Big Parade.” Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Humphrey, and son and daughter, visited their son N. E. v family at Smithfield, Sunday. Miss Lila Horton entertained as week-end guests, Miss Julia Eddins, of Meredith College and Messrs Bill Warner and T. D. Thornal, of State College. Miss Syron Cone spent last week end at the home of Miss Birdie Mur ray, of Middlesex. Mr. and Mrys. M. T. Debnam left Sunday for a few weeks visit in ! Georgia. Miss Hildreth Parker spent Sunday with relatives in Spring Hope. Master Joseph Allen Perry spent Su *,’ay with Pine Ridge folks. Dr. Geo. W. Palmer, of Wilson, was the guest of Mrs. B. M. Horton, Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Turnage spent the week-end with Mrs. J. G. Green. Air. and Mrs. Eddie Watson, of Richmond, Ya., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Watson. Miss Christine Hales spent the week end with her uncle, Mr. H. R. Hales and family, of Raleigh. The many friends of Mrs. James Pearce will be glad to know she is im proving rapidly from her recent ill ness. Miss Lois Hales, of Pine Ridge, visited friends in Zebulon Saturday. Miss Delma Whitley, of near Selma, was greeting Zebulon friends and shopping here Tuesday. Pilot News The regular monthly preaching was held here Saturday and Sunday after noon by our pastor, Rev. A. A. Pippin, of Wakefield. Both sermons were in teresting and much enjoyed. Many attended and we' feel sure everyone was glad he came. All are invited to come out next meeting dates, the fourth Saturday and Sunday after noons. * * * A large crowd attended B.Y.P.U. Sunday night. We feel proud to have so many visitors come and take part. The members were especially inter ested in the short talk given by Rev. Raleigh Shearron. Would be glad to have some other young man come and take a part with us who strives as hard as Mr. Shearron does to help i our union. j Subject for Sunday night, March 6, j will be a devotional meeting—Building True Character. Group II in charge, Miss Florence Williams leader. I What is character ? How may we attain character? These will be discussed Sunday night at 7:30. Be O. T.! There is something finer than to do right against inclination and that is to have an inclination to do right. There is something nobler than reluc tant obedience, and that is joyful obedience. Our rank of virtue is not measured by its disagreeableness but by its sweetness to the heart that loves it. Brantley wishes to an nounce to all little boys and girls of the Junior fI.Y.P.Y. that he will re vive that spymdid organization like we had last summer, and he wishes them to meet him at the church each Sunday morning, beginning at 10 o’clock. Those little folks gave pro grams really worth while and they were much enjoyed by all who at tended. After the program a short talk will be given for practicing sing ing. Mrs. Leonard Pearce of Durham is spending some time here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bunn. Little Donald Flood of Cedar Rock spent several days last week with little George and Woodrow Pippin. Mr. J. G. and Miss Allie Mae Den ton, Mr. J. F. and Miss Florence Wil liams spent Friday in Raleigh. Among the sick this week are Mrs. j Smith Pearce and Mr. Berry Williams. There was so much static in the air Fri day night, Feb. 18, that it was almost impossible to get the returns of the Dela ney and Maloney fight, however, R. E. Brantley cut olf the xerial on his Atwater Kent set and we leard the whole fight without any trouble. No use talking, those Atwatdr Ken£ sets sure do show results. Massey. * * * Stallings-Strickland. Mr. “Cliff” Stallings and Miss Gladys Strickland were married on Wednesday, February 16. * * * Club Entertained. On Thursday evening, Feb. 24, Miss es Viola Massey, Larose Stallings, Al lie Ma e Denton, Winnie Belle Bunn and Florence Williams graciously en tertained the ladies of Pilot Better ment club at the home of Miss Viola Massey. The members had a lengthy dis cussion on several subjects. It was then decided the club meet again Thursday night, March 24, at the home ok Mrs. T. W. Bunn. The Pearce Baracca Class enter tained the Philathea Class and the teachers of the whole Sunday School, Saturday evening with a nice Bruns wick stew and barbecue, as well as other goodies that make a nice sup per. It was enjoyed, you bet. Mr. and Mrjs. Willie Pearce, of Zebulon, spent Saturday night with Mrs. Pearce’s sister, Mrs. Lumas Privett. McMILLIAN TO FILL BAPTIST PULPIT SUNDAY Rev. J. L. McMillian, of Wake For est, will preach from the Baptist pul pit Sunday morning, at the usual hour, 11 o’clock. Rev.
