Eve!' thought it might be well to give the appearance of having had an accident, so I stood by the car door and tried to look as accident al as possible. The first car ap proaching slowed down consider ably ,then all at once gathered speed and fairly rushed by us as did the next. Ted grew disgusted and Ferd took off his white shoes and set off to trot the two miles to Avon Privette’s Philette. He went out of sight with the soles of his feet shining when picked up by the lights of the cars that passed him. We sat in the car, doors and win ! dows shut as closely as possible to keep mosquitoes from devouring us, and in a surprisingly short time ; Ferd was back with Link Cox and plenty of gasoline. I never realized j before how nice Link looks. —ooo I wondered why no one would stop to help us and the sons deli -1 cately intimated that it was prob ably because of their knowing the somewhat unsavory stories that have been told about the place where we were parked and because of seeing me standing there. —ooo — We reached home safely a lit tle before twelve. I had hoped my husband would have worried I enough to learn how I feel when he is away much longer than I had expected; but that man had not worried one bit. He was asleep! * - i To discourage lengthy speech | making, a certain African tribe re quires every man "who makes a speech to stand on one foot during | its delivery.
