Harris of Lexington, Va., announce the birth of a daugh ter, Anne Fountain, on April 26. ■ Mrs. W. S- Winstead of Ranson ville has returned to her home af ter a visit here with her daughters, Mrs. Irby Gill and Miss Mildred Winstead. Mr. Winstead came for her and they left last Sunday, Mrs. W. S. Winstead, Miss Mil dred Winstead and Mrs. Pattie Har ris were guests in the home of the Fred Pages for supper on Monday night of last week. Mrs. Winstead was a guest in Wakelon Dormitory for supper on Saturday night. — l -H C. R Co nibs and wife, who was Miss Harriett Bunn before their marriage on March 14, are making their home in Pilot. Miss Bettie Cone, who was con fined to her bed a part of last week by illness, is now atte to be up again. + ■■* ■ Mesdames R. T. Harris, Alvin Bridges, Ormond Massey, Ed Bunn and Willie Bullock went to Durham last week to attend the district meeting of Home Demonstration Clubs of the eighth district. After the close of the meeting they great ly enjoyed a Visit to the grounds of Duke University to see the tulips blooming there. —i — t — Mrs. Henry H. Hood, who has returned from Mary Elizabeth Hos. pital, still continues ill. Under the instruction of Dr. Peacock she is preparing for an operation. —M— Birth Aimovneement Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Richardson of Zebulon, announce the birth of a son, James Derry, Jr., on May 2nd. Mrs. Richardson was formerly Miss Pauline Bunn. -•M Mrs. L. M. Massey is another of those who have been afflicted by mumps during the past week i -* Mrs. Neal Morris of Charlotte visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Robertson, during the week end and the first part of this week. —e—i — Mrs. L. C. Horton and Miss Olive Winstead of Ransomville visited their sister, Mrs. Irby Gill, on Tues day of this week. Mrs. Victoria Gill was chairman of the Red Cross enlistment cam paign for Zebulon last week. Mrs. C. G. Weathersby was call ed on last Saturday to her home in Clover, Va., because of the illness of her mother, Mrs. Williams, who is in a hospital in South Boston. Mrs. A. V. Medlin was called to Dunn Tuesday night by the death of her stepmother, Mrs. J. B. Lee, who had been in poor health for months. Mrs Lee had frequently visited in the home of her daughter here and had made a number of friends in Zeb lion. Miss Mary Lee Alford of Zebu lon, R.F.D.. will be among the 220 seniors at W. C. U. N. C. to receive degrees at commencement on June 1. Miss Alford is a candidate for the B. A. degree, having majored in English and minored in History. She has been a house vice-president during her senior year The editor of the Record and Mrs. Davis appreciate an invitation from Miss Frances Hunt Hall, Wakelon senior, to attend the grad uating exercises of her class on Fri day morning, May fifteenth, at ten thirty o’clock. Misses Frankie Hall and Eunice Outlaw were the guests of Miss Jo celyn House at Meredith College during Hospitality Week. A foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. —Prov. 10:1. A subscriber told us this one which we have no reason to doubt: A certain man carried a hen to a merchant to enter our hen con test- She was weighed and due re cord taken that she balanced the scales at 10% pounds. The mer chant put the hen in a coop. The man said, “Now, pay me for her.” “Oh,” the merchant replied, “You get a chance of $25.00 free and the hen pays for a year’s subscrip tion to the Zebulon Record.” The man said: “I don’t want no Zebulon Record, I want you to give me my hen or pay me for her.” He took his hen home. The hen that won the $25.00 weighed five ounces less than this one. Another man brought one that would have won a dollar prize.
