Oldham in Holland’s. Ur. Irby Hoyle of Henderson visited Mrs. Starkey Hoyle and family at Wakefield Sunday en route to Camp Jackson for two weeks. Mrs. Martha Hoyle, Who has been for two weeks with Mrs. Starkey Hoyle, went last Sunday to Buie’s Creek to stay for awhile with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Ays cue. Miss Clarice Fowler, Evelyn and Sallie Fowler spent Tuesday in Wakefield with Miss Jane Hoyle. In the afternoon the four called to see Mrs. Ted Davis. Mrs. J. M. Potter of Swarthmore with her sons visited Mrs. William Rand in Garner on Wednesday afternoon. The editor and Mrs. Davis ap preciate an invitation to attend the marriage of Miss Mary Wilton Harper to Rev. Carl Ousley at the First Christian Churcn, Wilson, on July 29, at half after eight in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Bridges and children and Mrs. Oren Massey have returned from a trio to Boono. While there thev were guests of Mrs. J. A. Williams, a sister of Mrs. Bridges. Cotton blooms have been receiv ed in the Record office, raised by W.B . Carlyle on the farm of C. M. Rhodes. These came in on Tues . day of this week, but Mr 3. Rhodes says they had blooms last week. George Henry Tempbj is home from Towson, Md., for a vacation with his parents, the L. R. Tern pies, and other relatives. Miss Kay Kemp was hostess at dinner on last Saturday evening honoring her cousin, Miss Doris Jonas of Fredericksburg, Va. Potters. Mrs. S. A. Horton w?r.t on Sun day to sea her mother, Mrs. Jef freys, who is ill at her home in Johnston county. Miss Hilda Faison, daughter of M. M. Faison of Zebulon, was mar ried on July 4 in Roanoke Rapids to Mr. Arthur Francis Pell of Eliz abeth City. They will reside in Eliztbeth City. The bride is a grad uate of W. C. U. N. C. She has for some time made her home with her aunt, Mrs. J. B. O’Briant, of Roanoke Rapids. Mrs. H. F. Wade leaves this weak for a stay with her daughter, Mrs. Allsbrook, at Scotland Neck. Lake Allsbrook, small granddaughter of Mrs. Wade, who has been here for two weeks, will return home v ith her grandmother. Miss Garnet Batchelor of Rocky Mount spent soma days here re cently with her sister Mrs. Lee Roy Harris. Mrs. Willard White is recovering nicely from an appendectomy which she undarwent in Ma y Elizabeth Hospital or. Tuesday of last week. Small Judy Robertson went to Charlotte last week with her aunt, Mrs. Neil Morris, who had visited relatives here. Judy is having a most enjoyable visit. Misses Estolle and Arie Jane Richards brought in on Thursday of last week a cotton bloom pick ed from their father’s field. Miss Ruby Temple and the Home Economics Class of Fuquay-Varina high school spent last week at White Lake. L. R. Temple and family spont the fourth Sunday in June with Dr. Irby Hoyle in Henderson. Mesdames H. N. Brinkley, Wil liam Lipscomb and J. N. Carring ton of Durham visited Mrs. C. E. Flowers last weak. Chas. Flowers Jr., is enjoying his stay at a boys camp in the west ern part of the state. The H. R. Brantleys of Route 2 have mover! to Enfield where he is employed by the A & P Stores, They have asked that the Recor 1 follow them to their new home Engagement Announced Announcemont has been made of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Mary Wilton Har per, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Harper of Wilson to the Rev. Carl Lee Ousloy ofZebulon, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ousley of Buies Creek. Ttye was made Monday at a lovely tea given by Misses Mamie and Anne Harper at their home on Lee Street. The guests were greeted by little Ann Bullock, cousin of the bride ! elect, who presented each a white scroll tied with white satin ribbon and valley lillies showered with tiny silver balls and bearing the names “Mary—Carl” and the date “July 29, 1936.” Guests were received by Mrs. H. S. Hilley and Miss Fannie Harper and directed to Mrs. J. M. Waters, who presented them to the receiv ing line composed of Mrs. W. C. Harper, Miss Mary Harper, bride elect, Misses Mamie Harper and Anne Harpar, and Mrs. J. T. Aden of Wendell. Misses Gladys Baker and Frances Watson directed the guests to Mrs. Howard Watson, who received at the dining room door. Mrs. C. A. Jarman, assisted by Miss Eva Louise Shelton, pre sided over the punch bowl. Sand wiches and mints were served by Misses Effie Lee and Marjorie Wat son. Guests were invited to register in the bride’s book, presided over by Miss Myrtie Harper and Miss Doris Shelton. Graceful arrangements of sum mer flowers were used with slender tapers in the halls and rooms of the home. The bridal motif was at tractively carried out in tfie din ing room, the tables being centered with a bowl of Talisman roses flanked by pink tapers. Miniature silver slippers and tiny flower bas kets were suggestive of the bridal note. Miss Edna Alphin entertained during the afternoon with soft music. Approximately 60 guests called. Miss Harper is a graduate of Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, N. C., where she received her A.D. degree and diploma in piano. She has since attended N. C. C. W. and the University of Virginia. For the past three years, she has been a member of the Wendell School faculty. Rev. Carl Lee Ousley of Zebulon son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ousley of Buies' Creek, is a graduate of Campbell College and Wake Forest College. He is a member of Pi Kap pa Delta Honorary Fraternity where he was awarded a degree of special distinction. He was a mem ber of the Wake Forest Debating learn, which won the Southen ( hampionship and also represented the college in extemporaneous and after-dinner speaking contests.
