Mrs Jim Upchurch Mr,. Jim Upchurch was bom on June 14, 18h5, and died Sept. 2, 193 G. When she was eleven years old she joined the I’oplar Springs chun h and was a faithful member of that church until the organiza lion of the Pearce’s church when she moved her membership there. On April 12, 18811, Miss Bettie Medlin, who she was at tiiat time, became the bride of James Up church. To this union were born 8 children, two boys and six girls: Mrs. Edgar Johnson, of Zebulon, Airs. Claude Denton of Durham, Wilford, Richard, Otha and Laddie Up. hurch of the Pearce Communi ty. All these except two with the husband survive, with 31 grand children and one great grandchild. She also has four sisters and three brothers to grieve their loss. She was buried in the cemetery at the Baptist church at Pearces. Rev. 'l'heo. B. Davis of Zebulon, in the absence of her pastor, conduct ed the funeral service. MUSS. Flowers was hostess front 8:00 until 11:00 p. m., honoring her nieces, Misses Mary Elizabeth Campon who is now in her final year of training at Johns-Ilopkins, and Miss Jacquelyn Strickland of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Blowing Rock. The Flowers home was beautiful with decorations of giant mari golds in green vases, complement ing a color scheme of green and white. Bridge was enjoyed at live ap propriately appointed tables. High score was made by Miss Helen McMullen. The guests of honor were also presented gifts. A party plate of molded ice cream, cakes, salted almonds and crystallized fruit was served with punch. The hostess was assisted by her son, Charles Flowers, Jr. Guests besides the honorees in cluded: Mrs. Crudup Mitchell of Emrlington, Misses Helen McMullen Marion Whitlock, Ruby Dawson, Cabell Campon, Dorothy Jones, Catrina Gill, Marianna and Mar garet Howard, Margaret, Dorothy and Mary Barrow, Jocelyn House, Grace Coletrane, Sadie Leigh Blount, Lucy Newell and her guest Miss Morris of Franklinton. N. C. Baker is holding a Re vival Meeting at the St. Paul color ed Church of Christ’s Disciples. The meeting began Sept. 14. While Mr. Baker is General Manager, Elder W. L. Grantham of Freeman Va., is doing the preaching for him. Ail. boih white and colored, are cor dially invited to attend. The Zebulon Baptist Church has i just concluded a revival meeting with 10 added to the church, 13 of them by bap. ism, 5 restored, 2 by letter. Rev. Mr. Jones did the preaching. The Lord’s Supper was given after the baptizing. The pas tor, Mr. Merriott, preached Sun day. There will be Union Rally at Zebulon Church on Oct. 11. Good singing. Mr. James Hopkins has gone back to the soldiers’ hospital in Va. after visiting his brother and sis er, Mrs. F. V. Williams, here. Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Carpenter have returned home after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Carpenter, here. Miss Helen Gossett of New York is visiting here. Mrs. L. S. Simmons, Mr. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Fichdele of Nor folk-, Va., attended church here Sunday. Mrs. John Foster was able to go to church last Sunday.
